On Netflix. Absolutely astonishing series. It's a bit of a slow start, but it's superb.

I am halfway through. Yvonne Strahovski is excellent, as she always is.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 15/07/2020 00:07

It's just incredible. It only gets better from this point as well

And yes, she's fucking glorious.

Currently watching episode 5. It's brilliant.

Ooh, just finishing up Ozark and this is next on my list. Looking forward to it. Smile

This is so good! On episode 3 and desperate to watch another. Took me a while to realise she's Serena from The Handmaid'd Tale.

iwantavuvezela · 17/07/2020 22:02

@SavageBeauty73 - me too - kept thinking where do I know her from! That was so very good and so very sad

cherrytree63 · 17/07/2020 23:32

I binged this today, so incredibly sad.
Those poor people, just known as ID numbers.

Just finished this last night, we are on holiday and I downloaded it to my iPad to watch while away, really good and so sad.

I'm going to dissent. I thought it was good, but 3* kind of good. Not excellent. So many of the 'characters' were cliches - the career woman who loses her husband and chance at having children due to spending too much time at the office; the Powerful Woman who wears steel rimmed glasses and says 'fuck' a lot; the noble, stoic refugees; the sexually predatory cult leader. I also felt it lost pace towards the end, and probably should have been whittled down to 4 episodes. But I say this about most TV series!

I also definitely got the feeling we were being taught a lesson. Very much 'message TV'. Not that I neccessarily disagree with the message, but found it a bit unsubtle and didactic.

Ooooh glad I saw this. I watched the trailer and thought it looked good.

katy1213 · 18/07/2020 18:59

Me too. 3* at best. I know it's based on a true story but it felt like two different stories clunkily cut and pasted together. Watched it because of Cate Blanchett but her role was a ridiculous cartoon character.

Yeah, it was interesting to see Cate play an Australian - you rarely see her act in her natural accent - but as you say, the character was basically a caricature, like so many in this series. And it was 'inspired by' rather than 'based on' a true story, which is maybe why it stretched plausibility quite a bit of the time.
