At the start of lockdown, with all the DC’s evening activities cancelled, the stated watching “the middle”, 2 or 3 (or 4!) episodes a night for 12 weeks and we finished the last season last night.

I am bereft. I was a little bit in love with the Hecks, I guess because they are a little bit like every family I know. I liked that the kids grew up through the serieses, unlike other shows which stick at the sane age (Maggie Simpson has been a baby for 30 years), I like that it’s gentle comedy and undemanding after a frazzled day of wfh and homeschooling.

What next? How do DH and I fill the time from 10-11pm now? We tried Modern Family, but I don’t get it. I’d it supposed to be funny?

Love The Middle. Try Modern Family, not as good as TM imo but still worth a watch. Bit old school now but Everybody Loves Raymond and The King of Queens are also great

quandry101 · 26/06/2020 12:47

I loved the Big Bang Theory!

Notonthestairs · 26/06/2020 12:55

We've watched the whole of Modern Family, Friends and the Big Bang theory. I was quite resistant to the Big Bsng Theory until they introduced Bernadette and Amy - really appreciated having women scientists represented. I ended up loving it!

I've watched. The Middle without my kids and loved it - will try it with them. And I'd completely forgotten about Malcom in the Middle. Is Schitts Creek sweary? My youngest repeats everything she hears Blush

Outnumbered

Honesty brilliant

ssd · 26/06/2020 12:57

And of course Malcolm in the middle

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 26/06/2020 12:57

The US Office. It’s marvellous and there are 9 series. All on Prime.

Pinkiii · 26/06/2020 12:58

Life in pieces is brilliant!

ssd · 26/06/2020 12:59

Outnumbered has 3 kids that start off young and grow up, and mum and dad plus extended family

So funny, true to life, witty lines, dry humour, set in South london

Extracurricularfatigue · 26/06/2020 13:00

I've already seen most of these recommendations!

Life in Pieces not though.

whichteaareyou · 26/06/2020 13:01

Deff US office it's the best thing ever! Parks and recs is good as well and Modern family. I didn't like any of these at first for some reason now I've watched them all at least 5 times!

Idolikeanicepieceofcake · 26/06/2020 13:07

I really liked 'The New Normal' but not sure if it's on the usual streaming services. I really lol'd when it was on. Darn it, now I need to go and binge watch it!

Cassie71 · 26/06/2020 13:08

Fresh off the boat.

BikeRunSki · 26/06/2020 13:21

See, we tried Modern Family l, and just didn’t get it. Is it meant to be funny?

We did the same with the Middle and were very sad when we finished it. Now we are binging on a Canadian comedy called Corner Gas which is available through amazon prime.

One2Three4Five6 · 26/06/2020 13:41

My DH and I binge watched this over lockdown too, as we were reaching the end DD8 decided she wants to watch it, so I am currently rewatching it with her and my teen DC after homeschooling is done... I love the Middle, it's one of my favourites.

ssd · 26/06/2020 15:33

I like modern family but I can't see it appealing to the ds's,dh not mad keen on it.

Seriously @BikeRunSki try Outnumbered. Guaranteed you'll all love it.

BikeRunSki · 26/06/2020 15:51

@ssd I was addicted to Outnumbered when it was first shown. I remember watching the first episode of the first series in a B&B in Cornwall on a cycling holiday. It is good, but I have seen them so many times now, I can’t binge them. Also, just a bit too much like my own life now to be that funny.

Have you seen Malcolm in the middle then?

BikeRunSki · 26/06/2020 16:11

Yes, I am old enough that I remember MITM first time round. I did look for him, but couldn’t find him free on any steaming channels.

We loved The Middle

I always strongly recommend Parks and Recreation. The first season (6 episodes) is PAINFUL but it is so worth it if you push through!

RevealTheHiddenBeach · 26/06/2020 16:13

I 3rd/4th/5th the Goldbergs, which is entirely fabulous, especially when you see the real life videos that it's based on.

Also young Sheldon. Definitely all along the same good lines!

GazingAndGrazing · 26/06/2020 17:26

Loving life in pieces, binge watched the first series

Gossipgirl2 · 28/06/2020 20:44

I found The Mindy Project great not as family friendly perhaps but nice easy watching.
