Leftovers - new on SciFi channel - one for Manifest fans?

I stumbled (as I often do!) across this by chance last night.

Amazing cast from Liv Taylor to Christopher Eccelston to Ann Dowd (Aunt Lydia).

Want even begin to describe the plot, not sure if it is scifi or supernatural. And it bit like Emergence has a small American town setting.

Sounds interesting- I'll check it out.

PuppyMonkey · 06/06/2020 16:24

Manifest was a load of shite Imho but I’ve heard Leftovers is very good.

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/06/2020 18:34

Waves to @stumbledin

On planner

I did give up with manifest s2 in the end

Loving emergence

Waving back @Blondeshavemorefun

Very strange I posted a comment after PuppyMonkey which seems to have disappeared.

Just to say I also thought Manifest was just a bit rubbish and regretted putting it in the title as it might puts potential viewers of.

But have only watched 2 episodes.

The Leftovers is excellent, there are a three seasons I think, I also enjoyed Manifest. Another series of this type of thing is Fringe which is also very good

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/06/2020 20:42

Loves fringe and jj

rosybell · 07/06/2020 22:19

I have not seen Manifest, but the Leftovers is ones of my all time favourite series. It is a grower - by season 3 I was so invested. It also, imo, has a truly satisfying ending. I loved it, and although it is sci fi, it is really just a show about grief and live, but with a gripping storyline.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/06/2020 11:17

I’m struggling with this. Hasn’t caught my attention

stumbledin · 08/06/2020 13:42

Feeling downcast as I thought I had made a discovery of a new series and turns out it is basically a repeat. Still hoping to follow it after the first two episodes of series one. And thanks rosybell for that info and not posting any spoilers. Smile

Yes there are 3 series I think

But don’t feel bad @stumblein

Was worth a watch. But not for me

Binglebong · 09/06/2020 12:36

I agree about Emergence. Intriguing!

species5618 · 09/06/2020 15:13

I remember ditching this after the first series, but just looking at the old reviews it seems as though it was the best thing ever, especially series 3. I didn't realize that cast, location and storyline changed from series 2 onwards.

The Leftovers is a brilliant series, head and shoulders above Manifest ( which had a good concept, but has now become a chore to watch, TBH, just need to find out what happens in the end!).

Some great actors in it, and the plot is so original. I would say the most similar thing to it would be Lost, but this doesn't have an annoying ending like Lost did.

Pemba · 10/06/2020 18:21

Fringe was also brilliant, I miss that show.

Emergence is somewhere in between, started off quite run-of-the-mill, but has become quite intriguing. Apparently there won't be a second series though.
