Before The 90 Days - can we discuss the awfulness of Ed?

I know there’s another active thread about BT90D but it’s mainly focused on a previous series.

I like Rose. She’s clever and funny and it saddens me so much that she has to tolerate Ed to try and get out of abject poverty.

He’s vile.

And yes, some of her behaviour has been awful- especially getting her son to call Ed “daddy”.

I've seen up to where he meets her family. I'm going to watch the rest later .

He doesn’t have a single redeeming feature. Staggers me that these men really seem to believe these women are madly in love with them rather than desperate for a route out of poverty

I listened to part of an interview he did on a podcast. He is quite full of himself, not self-deprecating as one might expect for a man with his unusual appearance. He seems to fancy himself a catch. It as if he does not own a mirror. Having lives in Asia for years, I've met his type, mediocre to hideous (looks and personality) men who think all Asian women worship them. Vile misogynists.

@forsucksfake, can I ask, what’s the sentiment like towards women like Rose in their native areas? To me, she’s very obviously looking for a meal-ticket but, seeing the poverty she lives in, I can’t blame her for doing anything to improve her situation. I wonder if locals support her goals, or if it’s a point of ridicule.

I know in previous seasons with Annie (from Thailand) and David, her family seemed supportive but it was quite clear she wanted to get away from poverty, and her parents benefited financially from him too. How, David was awful, but I don’t think he had anything of the nasty streak we’ve seen in Ed.

Northern in my experience with poor Filipinas who are willing to marry Americans, their families and communities support them because they know it is a way out of poverty. Also, this is probably more important, they know they will benefit from the woman's financial prospects too. The ones I met were married to older
Japanese men for the same reasons.

And you are right about David and Annie. I don't know if you have seen them together on Pillow Talk, but their financial situation is much better and they seem like a really loving couple. He can make fun of himself and seems to respect her.

Just saw a clip of a forthcoming episode where Ed gives Rose gifts and it turned my stomach.

He should have just ordered a sex doll because he clearly can’t handle a sentient human being.

I find Ed really creepy. The whole std testing wasn't focused on keeping them both healthy, he seemed preoccupied with finding out how sexually actively she'd been

I find him toe-curlingly awful. He’s 54 years old, less than 5 foot tall and twirled about in front of her saying “you like?”.
I find myself watching him on x2 and just reading the subtitles because he is so deeply creepy. He sends her for a bath and makes her shave her legs. He is controlling and mean and bizarrely entitled.

Just discovered this programme and am hooked. Yes, Ed is awful maybe he should have hooked up with Baby Girl Lisa.

Did anyone watch last night’s episode with Ed and Rose’s dad showering?

The shower scene was comedy gold. The scabby rat was genius. Watching it again on pillow talk and I really enjoyed all the reactions.
Other than the gasping and the laughing and the rat, the standout moment was Rose’s face when she showered him down. She can barely tolerate him.
That said, I don’t think he’s the worst that’s ever been on 90DF. The old guy with the boat who had the wife called Nicki. Jesse. I also think Robert is awful. There’s just more focus on Ed because his appearance makes good comedy tv.

On this weeks I loved David wandering around the Russian town in case he bumped into Lana (what would be the chances).
Poor Ed, well out of his comfort zone and Baby Girl Lisa (have you ever seen anyone who looked less like a Baby Girl) is the gift that keeps on giving.
