Beocca! ShockShockSadSad

Adelais · 26/04/2020 16:23

Yep I’m on episode 3 now! Loving it apart from the sad moment in episode 2 😥

waveafterwaveafterwave · 26/04/2020 18:23

I thought Uhtred had 3 children with Gisela but in this series it seems there are only 2. What happened to the third, have I missed something?

OP posts:
zukiecat · 26/04/2020 18:47

I thought the same wave

Gisela died giving birth to Uhtred's youngest child, no mention of him at all

Adelais · 26/04/2020 20:27

They did have 3 kids and I thought they were all being raised by the church? I think I missed a bit when uhtred was talking about his son uhtred but thought he’d mentioned the other two.

waveafterwaveafterwave · 26/04/2020 20:35

I've finished it after a day long binge.

Without giving too much away this early on, I thought it was a good series and a fifth season has to happen

I’ve finished it all now! I really enjoyed it and sad I’ll have to wait ages until season 5!

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 29/04/2020 15:32

Well I was going to post about what happened but I’ve just seen the deleted post due to spoilers so I’m not sure what the purpose of this thread is really if we can’t discuss the show Confused

Adelais · 29/04/2020 16:42

Maybe if the op adds a spoiler warning in the title we can discuss it?

waveafterwaveafterwave · 29/04/2020 18:19

I think we should be able to discuss spoilers - how do I get the thread title edited?

BoreOfWhabylon · 30/04/2020 00:49

Ooh, I hadn't realised! Thanks OP Flowers

I hope Leofric's ghost puts in an appearance again.

BoreOfWhabylon · 30/04/2020 00:51

@waveafterwaveafterwave just report your first post and ask MNHQ to edit the title

waveafterwaveafterwave · 30/04/2020 19:16

So I can't find any answers regarding uhtred's missing child.

I expect his daughter and the Dane (can't remember his name) will get together in the future.

I can't see Brida living much longer

sad about Beocca Sad

I watched a Facebook live thing with the producer and some actors from TLK and they said they basically left out Uhteds third child as he wasn’t an important enough character but he may appear in the future.

I didn’t understand why Uhted and aethelflead didn’t just marry and rule Mercia together?

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 01/05/2020 14:18

Yeah I wondered that too adelais it seemed like the perfect solution to me. Æthelflæd to actually rule the place and Uhtred to command her army and protect them all. I suppose it doesn’t allow Uhtred the freedom for the rest of his journey though. He has always planned to return north and be Lord of his own lands.

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/05/2020 00:33

Æthelflaed and Æthelred were real historical figures though. After her husband's death, Æthelflaed ruled Mercia alone for several years until her death. She was known as The Lady of Mercia and was Queen in all but name.

She was an important figure in the fight against the Danes and was the only female ruler in Anglo Saxon history, so they couldn't just marry her off to Uhtred.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 02/05/2020 00:39

Well they could because TLK is fictional and BC already changed the story of history by having Uhtred exist at all. Eg: there wasn’t really a hero warrior called uhtred who saved Alfreds life and advised him on battle strategy. Æthelflaed didn’t really have a Dane’s baby- she was Aethelreds child. So yeah, if they wanted to, they could also have Uhtred marry Æthelflæd.

shartsi · 03/05/2020 22:40

I just finished it. I think Uhtred is an idiot, always lets himself be used and discarded by the Saxon rulers. No wonder he wasn't in the history books. He literally gave his life to save Wessex and the Edward and Aetlelfled hust offered up his daughter to the Danes! When will he ever be appreciated?

SapatSea · 07/05/2020 10:21

Binge watched it and now wish I hadn't(as no more now) . Really enjoyed it. I thought it was more bloody than previous series, more like Vikings. Some things were quite soapy and signposted well in advance (e.g.romance between Uhtred's daughter and Dane leader). Brida has become really poisonous and deranged. I don't think her pregnancy would have survived her treatment in Wales. I was shocked she would have killed Uhtred's child. Great to see the gang back again.

I agree shartsi. How many times has Uhtred saved all of Alfred's family's lives? yet Lady Ellswith hates him, Edward shafts him and finally Aethelflaed offers his daughter up to a violent Dane and blows him off to get her hands on the throne. No reward. Ta! Typical toffs.

I hoped we might see Hilda at the end in Winchester. I like hw because it is based on books the storylines are well mapped out and major characters are lost along the way.
