Binge watched it today. Loved it. Particularly the man who identifies as an 8 year old girl. The TRAs are going to hate it 😁

Finished bingeing it yesterday. Loved it, but similar to others have said, I do think the therapist parts could have been cut back. I'd have rather seen more of some of the office staff, or Pat / Roxy.

I really loved that Pat and Roxy got together.

I think I cried every episode, it was all the clips from the wedding and the one where he was telling her she could die first.

It seemed to tie up all loose ends, should we assume there won't be a third series?

felt like a bit of a waste of time
did not like therapist.

EricaNernie · 28/04/2020 09:01

Although i felt for Emma/ Ashley Jenson's whose husband died in 2017.
i did like the ending

LockdownLucy · 28/04/2020 09:02

I didn't like it as much. Some funny set pieces but felt uncomfortable watching a lot of it. Ending was unbelievable.

middleager · 28/04/2020 09:09

Worth watching if only for episode 6 and the middle aged hulking husband/father who is having a mid-life crisis and self identifies as a young girl.

The RG character said very little indeed, it was mainly through the colleague and viewer to point out the ridiculousness of it all. Brilliant. But when he did speak to the child, it was caring.

We know from the transwidows thread that its the wives and children who suffer when men have a midlife crisis.

Neverending2020 · 28/04/2020 11:17

Season one much better!

VenusStarr · 05/05/2020 08:56

Binged this in 2 days. I don't know if it's how I'm feeling at the moment but I was in pieces, laughed a lot and cried a lot. I don't recall the first series having that effect on me.

Agree about the therapist. I also disliked Emma being pushy and trying to compete with his dead wife 😔 I thought he was entirely reasonable and honest and she was being petulant and a bit of a knob.

Love his relationship with the dog 😍

AprilJune · 05/05/2020 09:53

I don’t think she was trying to compete with Lisa.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 05/05/2020 10:22

I find it very well observed - the therapist was a bit too much, but the scenes where you can almost taste his grief are very realistic. If I didn't know better I would have thought he had been widowed in real life. I haven't seen anything else that has spoken to me in the same way and captured my own experience.

covetingthepreciousthings · 06/05/2020 21:24

Judging by Gervaises twitter it seems Netflix have commissioned another series..

covetingthepreciousthings · 06/05/2020 21:25

Just seen a Netflix have confirmed this.

MediocreOne · 06/05/2020 23:09

Loved season one but season two was awful. Writing and acting was awful. Way too try hard.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 10/05/2020 23:20

I thought it was deeply affecting.

But also hated the therapist - too much of it!

I also didn't like that Emma was prepared to settle for groundhog day. Fair enough it's all he could offer, but she should have walked away and found someone who'd put her first. Or until he was ready to say he really wanted to be with her.
I felt sad for her.

Rainbowb · 27/05/2020 23:34

I agree the therapist scenes were awful and not even believable. I can’t work out what that character adds to it. I felt the ending of series one was perfect and series two wasn’t as good bit I did love the graveyard scenes with Anne, I love the relationship between the two characters.

Hearwego · 30/06/2020 20:36

Just binged watched the complete two series. Thought it was good.
I know it’s quite old but just started watching Derek. Quite thought provoking so far, especially how people with disabilities can be seen by others.

purpleme12 · 30/06/2020 22:56

I loved it
Cried and laughed
And the German shepherd just makes it
I agree I could have done without the crude stuff but that's not really my humour but the greatness of the rest of it made up for it
But I don't want him and Penelope Wilton to stop meeting on the bench!
