Apologies if there's already a thread, but I couldn't see one. Anyone watching? Apparently this is a new series.

I'm waiting for the bench seats to make their inevitable appearance......Grin

A temporary ramp to the garden would be permanently down outside as the door wouldn't interfere with it - so no need for a permanent ramp that could affect resale value or up costs. They'd already pushed cost up. Perhaps the extra costs were a step too far.*

Ah I guess that could explain it. It did look like a fairly substantial one that could be left out.

Is anyone in the Estate agent trade - would even small ramps really affect resale costs?

covetingthepreciousthings · 23/04/2020 09:57

Bold fail' Sad

PineappleDanish · 23/04/2020 09:58

We immediately thought they were trying to sell too by not putting in the ramp. The Irish bloke really is a bit unhinged - loved Angela asking him whether he had shares in a bench seating company.

Why does he want everything to look like a caravan?

covetingthepreciousthings · 23/04/2020 09:58

I read a piece that said couples had to find the money for builders themselves but the design and survey work was free

I'm sure I've read something similar about this show, I'll try find it. I think it was Laura explaining how the process works on Instagram said something like they get help with designers.

"...........why does he want everything look like a caravan?"

I couldn't believe they thought it was nice.

Sertchgi123 · 23/04/2020 15:50

I don't like his designs at all, especially this weeks. Caravans actually look better. Grin

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 23/04/2020 16:01

I think they have to be polite LadyEloise Grin

Posters on this thread have so far compared Robert's design as a:
Bird house at the zoo
Potting shed
Child's den built by children
Bird hide
A nature reserve cafe.
A building in an eco garden

They also said he'd be a goid designer nof a Scout hut or Youth hostel.

Nobody said it was a lovely, relaxing, accessible, garden room, " like an orangery" as the lady wanted.
He's not really up to the brief given, is he ?

Tablefor4 · 23/04/2020 17:15

Definitely agree with "bird hide" and practically playing a drinking game with this programme!

TBF I thought Robert seemed more focussed and serious about accessibility issues than the clients. I did wonder if the lady was a bit in denial about her disability (which would be totally understandable), hence no ramp in the end etc

I also heard that owners pay for the build (may be first series) which has to be the case - can you imagine licence payers' money being spent on some random's house?! Suspect they may get a little help in dressing the house. I definitely thought the end styling yesterday was great (and unlikely to be the couple's own thoughts).

Tablefor4 · 23/04/2020 17:15

Someone here said there should be a roster of architects - and I agree. Otherwise, love this programme.

NamedyChangedy · 23/04/2020 18:44

Oh no, I'm a bit behind - just caught up with Punam and Anuj's build. Was appalled by Robert's design - yet again brown bench seating, of course. Looked like a commercial space, can't imagine anyone wanting to live there unless they were starting their own gentlemen's club. And the courtyard was such an impractical waste of space - did he even know whether the homeowners were keen gardeners? I despair!
About to watch ep.3 now...

NamedyChangedy · 23/04/2020 18:47

I'm also a big fan of the presenter - not sure of her background, but she always seems so likeable... really interested in the homeowners and their responses. Big fan. And she isn't positioned as an architecture expert so doesn't suffer from the slight smugness that people like George and Kevin sometimes do (still love them both!)

NamedyChangedy · 23/04/2020 19:23

OK, Robert needs an intervention. Can someone please point out to him that he designs the exact same space and materials for every single project - Plywood. Brown. Bench Seats. Concrete. Indoor plants. If I'd just seen one then I might like it but now I just roll my eyes at him. Very frustrating. I do like the show but I'd love them to have different architects for the next season, if they make one.

PineappleDanish · 23/04/2020 19:25

We said "bird hide" about last night's monstrosity too. I suppose you could have made it OK by painting the plywood, and he went for the ply in the first place because it's cheap, but still.

He is totally a one trick pony. Come on Robert, you're clearly a clever bloke. Show us something else other than brown bench seating.

covetingthepreciousthings · 23/04/2020 19:34

moregeous.com/moregeous-design-interiors/

Found this website for one of the people who was a project build manager on the show, so they definitely get help with sourcing items like flooring etc and practical help, as well as redesigns.

covetingthepreciousthings · 23/04/2020 19:40

Actually if you check out the Instagram account
@ makeitmoregeous there's more details on builds like the one last week. Hoping she'll do one for this week and explain the lack of a permanent ramp!

HairyToity · 23/04/2020 22:25

I preferred Roberts this week. I also liked his design for the first week of this series. If I had the cash not sure I'd ever be brave enough to use him as an architect.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 23/04/2020 22:39

Roberts design could have worked if there was no plywood or it was painted instead, and rather than the bench seating have some huge squashy sofas, I liked the fact he put a woodburner in there, it gave the room a focal point and some character and connecting the room to the kitchen made it feel part of the house, rather than a bolt on conservatory, he actually got the basic structure right, it’s just his interior design style of bench seating, masses of plants and plywood that spoilt it.

Laura’s design was very striking, I thought the slanted glazing was inspired and the black window frames were stunning and really framed the garden. The couples interpretation was good, though I would have liked them to have done Laura’s roof lights, I noticed they removed the island and there was no dining table in the new garden room like in the original design. I think that room was finished by a stylist or they took a lot of advice as looking at the rest of the couples house it was not there normal look.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 23/04/2020 22:41

Did anyone notice when the husband brought out his wife a drink she said is it tea or coffee? And he said you’ve got water! Charming!

Qgardens · 24/04/2020 09:21

Robert appears in the opening credits of "£100k house: Tricks of the trade." when they say they've gathered a team of experts to help and show a load of them milling around in an office. I haven't seen enough of the programmes to know whether he actually designs in any episodes. If he does, will the brown bench seating etc, make another appearance?

FlamingoAndJohn · 24/04/2020 13:16

There was one program before where there was a different house and architect/designer each week.
He was one of the designers on that.
The house was on a village green and had been a post office. He made the whole front of the house one big, uncovered window. It looked really good but it wasn’t practical. They loved it though.

WarriorsComeOutToPlayay · 24/04/2020 20:01

I remember that Flamingo. I wish I could remember the name of the show!

FlamingoAndJohn · 24/04/2020 21:33

The tv program was Tricks of the Trade.

WarriorsComeOutToPlayay · 24/04/2020 22:58

Ah thank you

ageingdisgracefully · 25/04/2020 20:45

I quite liked this week's. The sloping window was a great idea.

Does anyone know if it's possible/a good idea to paint white uPVC?
