I rather like the cute 'spoilets' typo in the thread title Grin

I shall always call them spoilettes from now on.

Or should it be spoilerette?

Quite an interesting article here from a former Satmar adherent, which I think hits the nail on the head. The concepts he talks about aren't familiar to the Satmarers, but then they weren't common in the rest of society until 60 years ago, if then....

I've just finished watching Shstisel, which was brilliant. But I need to know - what the hell happened to the dog?

Yes the actress looked physically very young and thin almost anorexic looking. It was off putting for me as I felt it took away from the story. Is she very short in RL?

Confused well they didn’t shrink her for the programme...I believe she had a rare childhood cancer and the treatment led to stunted growth. I don’t think that should preclude her an acting career!

She’s an incredible actress. As was the guy who played Yanky - and Moische too, who actually grew up in the Satmar community and speaks Yiddish as his first language. Much of the plotline in Berlin was hokum, but emotional and enjoyable hokum at that. DH’s family were German Jews and the line Esty says in the playground about the dead being with you wherever you live was incredibly resonant.

In the end, it doesn’t really matter if we know whether she gets the scholarship or not. She’s fought for her freedom and found her mother again...

Shira Haas the actress who played Etsy had kidney cancer at the age of 2 The treatment to kill it stunted her growth but she's grown taller than the Doctors predicted she would. Another bit of useless information. Shira and the actor who played her Husband were neighbours growing up and have been friends for 10 years
