Anyone watch the start of season 3 last night? I thought it a little too convoluted, but perhaps it will all come together over the coming episodes

Is it the final series?

Yes the Maeve bits seem more watchable.

Honeyroar · 22/04/2020 09:21

That blue dress that Dolores wore irritated me. It must’ve been so heavy and impractical- would’ve stunk!

mencken · 26/04/2020 10:49

I've now caught up (for the next 18 hours or so) so can join in here!

very uneven this series, two episodes (5 and 3 I think) were incredibly dull - if you read comments on reviews rather than reviews you'll see that many agree. First episode incomprehensible and I only got a lot of what was going on after reading up afterwards - that's not how it should be. Two and six were excellent, stuff actually happened rather than people just walking about occasionally shooting at each other. Electric car chase in 5 was just comically slow.

Tessa Thompson as Charlotte-ish is much better than last series, doing well despite staggering about in tight skirts and fugly heels in action scenes. Although where she has been tucking that gun in a skin-tight waistband is a puzzle, Dolores does the same. She's now got flat biker boots for walking about in.

Sound quality and acting are big issues, French bloke is almost incomprehensible and Evan Rachel Wood is very mumbly at times. No-one can say 'Rehoboam' so that you can hear it. Also amused that Wood has enough clout to demand that naked Dolores suddenly has the long hair so she isn't seen topless. This isn't the case for all the actresses.

Thandie Newton is the absolute highlight, totally understandable (what a beautiful voice and of course British so I would understand her better), clearly showing every emotion to tell the story and even making it funny at times, admittedly with the best part.

not sure what Caleb is for, maybe that will become clear - he's solid wood too. Special effects really shown off in the scene with 3 versions of Ed Harris. BerNARD just wanders about looking puzzled as always.

it seems this is the last series and there are two episodes to go. Probably enough I think. Great ideas but poor production and uneven acting and the latter are the absolute basics.

BunnytheHoneyBee · 28/04/2020 21:56

On episode 7. It’s a good one.

Not many people seem to watch that I know IRL so needed to find the Mumsnet group

Honeyroar · 28/04/2020 22:10

Yes it was good. I think I actually followed it!

mencken · 29/04/2020 11:16

hmm. Ep 7 also too slow and too much focus on the really boring Caleb. And again - mumble, mumble!

apparently it HAS been renewed for series 4. May not bother.

BunnytheHoneyBee · 29/04/2020 14:01

I like Caleb

Series 3 has been so different to series 1 and 2 that I can’t imagine where we’ll be by series 4

BunnytheHoneyBee · 29/04/2020 14:02

Oh and I couldn’t work out where I knew Caleb from so I googled. He was Jesse in Breaking Bad

bakingdemon · 29/04/2020 16:31

Caleb is so dull! Even now that we know they messed with his brain because he's special. I just don't care what happens to him.
Will watch next week to see where it ends up but def won't watch season 4 unless they go back into the park.

OP posts:
BunnytheHoneyBee · 29/04/2020 16:42

But they still could be in a park 🤷🏻‍♀️

Campervan69 · 30/04/2020 00:31

I am really enjoying this a lot more than Season two I think there's a lot more humour and humanity in it somehow.

Absolute favourite character is Maeve and agree she is the best actress. I always feel that European and UK actresses and actors are are more interesting and characterful than American.

Ikeasucks · 01/05/2020 01:14

Enjoyed episode 7 (is that it?). Can’t believe I’m now routing for Delores to save humanity.

Campervan69 · 01/05/2020 10:38

I love both Delores and Maeve. Want them to team up and work together. Don't want to see them fighting each other.

Ikeasucks · 01/05/2020 14:58

Thandie Newton is such a stunning looking woman. Never thought of her in a fighting all action role

NoSoapAndGory · 03/05/2020 20:30

The fighting scenes between Maeve & Delores are great. Really impressed at how physically fit both actresses are.

QUESTION / SPOILER ALERT UP TO EPISODE 7

I think you've all twigged this way ahead of me, but essentially, I've got that Caleb is an 'outlier' - ie, an anomaly that's hard for the AI to control.

Why did they give him the glazed treatment? Was he not really in the war? What was the point of the partner and the guy with the camel coat?

Roominmyhouse · 03/05/2020 20:37

I loved episode 7, can’t wait for the finale now!

@NoSoapAndGory yes he was an outlier and they have used certain outliers to bring others in. That’s what the app he was using for work at the start was. He was at war but they changed his memories so things he’d done to the outliers were in his new memories part of what happened at war. Did you not see the bit where the guy in the beige jacket explained stuff to him? They then changed this memory so he thought he was a crime boss he’d killed at war. And that his partner got killed at war but he didn’t, he killed him.

There is a website called den of geek which does some great explanations of the episodes.

NoSoapAndGory · 03/05/2020 20:52

Thank you @Roominmyhouse, that's really helpful.

I did listen to the jacket guy, but I wasn't sure if he was a baddie or not.

I'll go and check out the website you've recommend 👍👍

Roominmyhouse · 03/05/2020 21:20

No worries @NoSoapAndGory enjoy the next episode 👍🏻

Honeyroar · 04/05/2020 22:30

I really enjoyed that last episode (8). It wrapped a lot of things up and really would be the perfect place to let the whole thing end. Even if they have left a little window of possibility for more. It really would be raking over the coals at this point!

mencken · 05/05/2020 13:31

really disappointed with that tedious hour or so that felt like much longer. Crucial plot points mumbled, loads of boring fight scenes and the world's least convincing riot with what looked like about 20 people. Shame as no doubt all concerned worked really hard - Evan Rachel Wood and Thandie Newton must have slogged away at the fights but it was just dull. Despite a couple of obvious stuntmen, also a waste to put the now fairly old Ed Harris through all that.

Hale-droid is funny, wobbling away from a riot doing the 'invisible tightrope' model-waddle walk. And later brewing up more hosts while wearing heels so high that she was almost toppling forward.

and whose idea is to put more after the end credits? Did see it but why, just why? Stubbs must be in quite a state by now if BerNARD has got so dusty.

at least mumbly french bloke looks to have gone for good - I remember feeling the same in series 1 when Bernard killed a character who was also incomprehensible. It is really hard to engage when you can't understand what they are saying. And yes I do have a soundbar and normal hearing, it is crap production values and some duff acting.

big shame. If there is to be more, get back in the parks!

NoSoapAndGory · 06/05/2020 00:03

@mencken - so glad I've seen your review. I've just turned it off after 30 mins. So, so, SO boring 😢😢

What a shame. I will now go and read Review Geek (thanks, PP) to find out what I 'missed'.

bakingdemon · 06/05/2020 14:50

@mencken couldn't agree with you more. Although we didn't know there was an end credit bit - was the suggestion that BerNARD got lost in a reverie of the sublime?
No way I will watch season 4 unless they get back in the park.

OP posts:
cornstarch · 06/05/2020 17:11

Terrible rubbish that was

Campervan69 · 06/05/2020 21:00

Boring I agree. And missed the end bit as turned straight off.
