I may have over invested in a tv show but I'm devastated Perri Kiely didn't win Dancing on Ice tonight. I get that Joe has improved but do you give someone the formula 1 championship just because they kept the car on the track?

Perri is a dancer but Joe is an actor so both had different advantages. Of course the biggest advantage is that Joe is much more widey known. Bah - I'm just really annoyed.

This is what happens when it's a public vote: popularity tops talent. Yes Perri was in a different league, he knows that, the judges know that, the viewers know that. Joe knows that.
Joe is a cheeky chappie with a great unassuming manner, who the voters liked more and more each week. Throw in a celeb girlfriend, an adoring proud son shouting out and a cute baby, and he's your winner.

Also, he did improve every week, he was good. Perri skated well from round one, and a professional dancer will always have an advantage.

Doesn't bother me at all, enjoyed the show last night very much. But if the judge's votes had counted, they wouldn't have all got tens across the board, and Perri would be winner.

The problem is, judges' votes don't ensure fairness either. Look how they overmarked Libby (to have a woman in the final, especially on IWD) and eliminated Ben

I found Perri's skating weird. It was strong and very stable, but there was always something subtly wrong and jarring about his leg and arm lines (to me). I wondered if it was to do with his dance being more contemporary, whereas James Jordan is more of a 'classic' dance style.

Perri was a better skater but I hate all the breakdancing tricks on ice and couldn’t see much skating at all in his first routine. Yes the backflip was a good trick (although it wasn’t clean, he had his hands down, still impressive from a non pro skater though) but I would rather see lovely skating. Vanessa always gets the young, popular, good skaters, surely it’s her turn to have an old duffer?!

I’m gutted Libby didn’t get to do a Bolero, I’m sure her and Mark would’ve been spectacular. The sheer power in her skating is impressive, and their partnership is really special.

Dickorydockwhatthe · 09/03/2020 15:07

To be fair I don't think you can even compare. Perri was way more better and confident on the ice and definitely played to his advantage with his dancing background. Joe however has made the biggest improvement from when he first started having no dancing experience. Maybe this is why they shouldnt have people with dancing background on these type of shows.

LifeImplosionImminent · 09/03/2020 20:31

Still mad but Tickets for Diversity's new show ramped up so there's always a silver lining - bless him. Gonna focus on looking forward to the show and glad that his backflip didn't go wrong!

The released voting figures shows Perri actually pulled in more votes after Libby left. So he lost by less than 1%, shòws people preferred his bolero.
Outcome may have been different if the votes had been reset once Libby left

LifeImplosionImminent · 09/03/2020 22:39

@popcorndiva It seems to hurt so much more that it was so close!

Perhaps if they hadn't opened voting before people skated (WTF) then Perri would have won. Quite why people should be able to vote on something they havent yet seen is laughable. I said to DH that Joe would win because of this - it was just a popularity vote. And so it turned out...

I8toys · 10/03/2020 15:34

Totally agree. Whilst Joe is a lovable underdog, Perri was in another class. I also think Ben should have been in the final in place of either Libby or Joe.

Think Joe got the sympathy vote for Caroline Flack, the family thing cos of Stacey Solomon and he's just likeable and had improved a lot.

ExclamationPerfume · 10/03/2020 16:20

I didn't enjoy watching Perri at all. He was always hunched over. He hardly skated in his first skate on Sunday. I am glad Joe won.

LifeImplosionImminent · 10/03/2020 22:41

@exlamationperfume That's exactly how I feel about Joe - except I'm not glad he won...shrug

If he's happy winning something knowing he wasn't anywhere near the best then he's a stronger man than most.
