With gabriel bryne and Elizabeth McGowan.

Have no idea what it will be like, and I think purists will be upset.

Just thought I would mention after the terrible (BBC?) one a few months ago.

I watched both episodes, really enjoyed them.
Have always liked Gabriel Byrne.

Anyone else watch it?

stumbledin · 06/03/2020 13:34

I only managed the first episode, but really liked it although a lot of characters to try and remember and work out who they all were.

And like the modern setting. And am appreciating more and more these multicountry productions.

Not sure it is worth even thinking about whether it is like the book.

My only slight complaint was it looked like Gabriel Byrne must have the same hair stylist as Stephen Rea (Flesh and Blood). But apologies to both gentlemen if they have both managed to reach their slightly older years and retained their solid black hair!

Really, really enjoyed it. I was about to start a thread, hence the name change.

Of all the "modern" adaptions it's come closest to the spirit of the original to me, so far.

Does anyone wish they'd dubbed the French speech? My eyesight isn't the best and I missed what was happening trying to read the subtitles.

My schoolgirl French wasn't good enough to keep up.

LoveSatsumas · 06/03/2020 15:29

I don't mind subtitles but white on white was impossible to read.
Be interesting to see where they go with the series.

I'm really looking forward to the rest of it. I hope it maintains the high standard.

stumbledin · 06/03/2020 16:03

Agree about subtitles not being fit for purpose.

But what really gets me is more and more they use text messages on mobiles as part of the plot. That's where they need subtitles. I suspect even someone with perfect vision cant read text messages filmed at an angle.

I watched the second episode and thought how calm all the survivors are. they all seemed to come up with a plan. I would be running round like a headless chicken.

Didn't think this episode was as good as the first, but am planning to watch episode 3 (tomorrow?)

I've watched the whole series. It does lose it's way a bit (IMO) round about the middle but picks up nicely. Worth watching and better than the recent BBC offering.

stumbledin · 13/03/2020 13:44

Okay! Episode 3 was really good. Maybe its me getting to grips with the different characters.

Still think the survivors all seem really laid back about the situation they have found themselves in.

Hope I could be that brave! Smile

Am totally missing out on this! What channel is it on please?

rosegoldwatcher · 13/03/2020 21:14

OOPs! Just noticed the thread title! Sorry all.

stumbledin · 14/03/2020 14:15

Not sure that Alibi is available on Freeview but if not, and / or for catchup, you can use UKTV online which is free!

@stumbledin - I can get Fox on Virgin cable so all good here. Watched episode one late last night, but dropped off so will have to watch the last 20 mins again! Enjoyed the bit that I did see.

stumbledin · 15/03/2020 19:33

Oh dear - my post about Alibi being available on UKTV is in the wrong thread! It should have been in the Gulf thread. Blush

Definitely enjoying this more! Despite some plot cliches. Smile

Very confused. No episode on Fox yesterday, but cant believe the episode I watched last week was the last one. If it was then they are surely planning another series. Confused
