OI Codster, don't you be including me in your "oyu lot" posts! Ta v much!

ConnorTraceptive · 05/09/2007 15:50

I was only telling dh last night how much i hate that ad, what a load of shite!

DH says I have no soul, I asked him if he remembers ds's early months with such a soppy, foggy, romantic haze?

Aitch · 05/09/2007 15:56

oh no, i totally think it strikes at the heart of bfing, that's why i think it's a brilliant piece of advertising.
'look, i want to be a Good Dad, i want to be involved. but how can i be involved if she's got a baby hanging off her tit all the time and feels like shit? i know, i'll solve all our problems by buying SMA'. it's very clever i think. DH said he thought it was cunning in the extreme.

JodieG1 · 05/09/2007 16:05

I don't like it at all and agree with Aitch.

TheMaskedPoster · 05/09/2007 16:15

I like the kettle on that advert - looks rather swish !

TellusMater · 05/09/2007 16:24

I agree with Aitch.

And I think they are thumbing their noses at the law.

louii · 05/09/2007 16:37

Hear hear Aitch, I knew it was bloody SMA as soon as it started, they are doing some advertising at the minute, if ever there was a company I would be least likely to buy a product from its them.

Ya you cant possibly be a good dad unless you use SMA, fantastic.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 05/09/2007 18:35

the full tv ad is contained within this very interesting blog post

But you'll have to read it to find out where it is.....

Which I am sure you wont mind, because it outlines all the salient points regarding the law, the code, and formula advertising, and how SMA are breaching it on a regular basis.

As I understand it, allegedly, their lawyers advised against certain aspects of it, but SMA went right ahead and proceeded with it anyway.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 05/09/2007 18:46

Custy - are you the "old gimmer" who is "up the stick" by any chance????

ProjectIcarusinhercar · 05/09/2007 18:50

The last line is something about "i'll do this without any pressure from you"

veeeeeery devious indeed. For the first two weeks a new mother is mostly with her DH. If she is struggling with BF she needs his support not him feeling like he is not getting to bond and be a new style dad and becoming a formula pusher.

Bastards.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 05/09/2007 18:57

LOLOLOL PI

You are going to be hauled over the coals for your "formula pusher" comment

mears · 05/09/2007 18:58

Very warm and fuzzy advert which clearly shows babies who should not be on crappy effin' follow-on milk.

Is a total breach I think of code by stealth, but SMA are clever enough never to have mentioned breastmilk at any time.

Very clever advertising, but Mumsnetters are too smart to be sucked in

Aitch · 05/09/2007 19:07

Told you, PI. you feel kinda grubby for having been sucked into it...

ProjectIcarusinhercar · 05/09/2007 19:17
harpsichordcarrier · 05/09/2007 19:36

my "favourite" part is the vomitworthy use of the word "missus"
bleugh

Aitch · 05/09/2007 19:39

'her beautiful neck' makes me cringe. DH says that 'caring dad' is a wet prick and no real man would ever want to be his pal.

ProjectIcarusinhercar · 05/09/2007 20:12

ah the subtext of formua feeders get to go out at night with their hair up and look glamourous.

LaCod · 05/09/2007 20:29

bet the dad is a vegan hwo drinks fruit tea

ProjectIcarusinhercar · 05/09/2007 20:41

I bet he has a man bag to keep vegan, wheat free snacks in along with individually wrapped fruit tea bags.

Aitch · 05/09/2007 20:46

his tongue is almost certainly just slightly too big for his mouth.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 05/09/2007 21:48

PMSL!

I'm still awaiting angry hordes......

Tortington · 06/09/2007 10:12

old gimmer up the stick

how very dare you!

if i by some miracle of spontanious rverse vasectomy of dh's became pregnant.

i think i would buy myself a mach 3 turbo and put the hot water on.

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 06/09/2007 12:47

Dya know, my Dear Nan did that. Clearly it didnt work, because my mum still arrived, and thus me......

Mind you, in those days, they didnt have Mach 3 Turbo's, just gin and knitting needles....

You silly old gimmer
