Back on BBC iPlayer on Monday at 7.00pm.

Bittersweet as it will be the final series, and will also incorporate a tribute to Slugs / Michael Sleggs.

Just watched the Aftermath, was very funny.

My favourite bits are the scenes between Kerry and her mum. Say 'tomato' still cracks me up, I even watch that clip on YouTube when I need a bit of cheering up!

Figgygal · 01/03/2020 21:10

I loved the office it was a thin line between funny and cringe and find this very similar

GCAcademic · 01/03/2020 22:35

Oh wow, I’d forgotten about The Office and it’s only just dawned on me how similar Gareth and Kurtan look. It’s uncanny!

I've seen clips of this around the place but this thread has prompted me to watch some of it properly.

Just watched the first two episodes of the first series and was reduced to wheezing hysterics but the sight of Kurtan striding behind the crowd at the scarecrow competition with a flaming torch.

DH watched it with me and was mildly amused but nothing more.

I grew up in a village in Somerset and I feel like they are people I went to school with. Big Mandy is also real, as far as I'm concerned.

DobbyLovesSocks · 02/03/2020 21:37

I'm watching ep 3. I feel so sorry for Kerry Sad

catchyjem · 02/03/2020 22:20

Love this show so much! Will be sad when it ends, hope they make something else after, they are comedy geniuses 😁

EachandEveryone · 02/03/2020 23:50

Im wondering if it would translate to American the way The Office and Shameless did?

mizu · 03/03/2020 07:12

Another superb episode, Star it's getting better and better. Star

EmmaC78 · 03/03/2020 11:23

Eachandeveryone - I was wondering that too and just can't see it translating that well. A lot of British people are baffled by the humour so godknows what Americans will make of it.

EachandEveryone · 03/03/2020 12:02

Well, alot of people didnt get the Office and it was massive there. I think its the idea they buy then run with it.

minou123 · 03/03/2020 16:58

Another brilliant episode

Loved Arthur telling Len that "They dont deliver emails on a sunday" in the silver surfers class Grin

But did anyone find this episode a little emotional? Or is it just me ?Blush

The parts that got to me were:
▪︎ Kerry's dad, martin, saying the horrible things about when she was a baby.

▪︎ Len saying "People think that being alone makes you lonely, but I dont think that's true. Being surrounded by the wrong people is the loneliest thing in the world"

▪︎Kurtan saving Len from being conned by Cynthia and telling him she is dead, instead of telling him the truth.

The80sweregreat · 03/03/2020 17:29

It was sad this week , but they never put on the pathos too much ; it's done just right I think, enough to make you realise they are alright people under all the bluster. Kurtan understood that Len wouldn't get that he was being duped and how they were doing it. His matured over time I think.
Kerry's dad is still horrible.
I loved this episode and I'm pleased the vicar was on it quite a lot.
His a good egg!

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 03/03/2020 18:58

I think the climax of the series is going to be something happening to the vicar. We're getting much more personal stuff from him than we've had before.

When he was telling his story about his dad and the jacket, Kerry's nonplussed response was totally because her own dad is so awful to her, which was built on in last night's episode. Martin Mucklowe is one of the least likeable TV characters currently on screen.

The80sweregreat · 03/03/2020 19:02

Martin Mucklow is their dad in real life!
I find it odd as his probably nice and has to play this horrible man who manipulates Sue and Kerry.
I hope the vicar will be ok ! I like him.

Clangus00 · 03/03/2020 19:02

and Len’s their uncle in real life.

MrHodgeymaheg · 03/03/2020 20:19

Brilliant episode. Really touching and hilarious at the same time. Not many comedies can do that.

Favourite bits so far:

Kurtan: is that a pillowcase you got there Mandy, what's in it?

Mandy: it's just a brick.

Or last night (not exact words)

Kurtan: I know why Sue us so happy - It's because Martin is pounding her 8 inches into her memory foam every night.

😂

MortyFide · 04/03/2020 07:29

I reckon the vicar is headed for a big old falling down-style explosion when he'll crack and tell everyone to fuck right off. He'll eventually get fed up of being put upon. And Kurtan will stop him from torching the church or something. Grin

As well as pounding her 8 inches into her memory foam, Kurtan also said that Sue and Martin were like a pair of greasy buffalos.

His comment about a facial transplant looking like someone had thrown a pancake had DH crying for ages.

The80sweregreat · 04/03/2020 09:15

Kurtan telling Len ' you can't do bank transfers on a Tuesday' was so clever. !
He is a sweetie really.
That poem made me laugh.
Very funny episode.

Inkanta · 04/03/2020 09:40

Difficult to categorise accurately what this programme is and why it's so appealing to watch. Within the relaxing country side scenes - it's playful, funny, witty and wise and there's the human but tragic moments, such as the way the awful dad speaks to Kerry. Has a purity and honesty about it.

lolaflores · 04/03/2020 10:34

Greasy buffaloes though.
How does one get any purchase?

The80sweregreat · 04/03/2020 10:36

It's very 'real ' , that's why I like it.
The way the people speak is how you would hear them speak in real life : you get the Vicars upbringing just by his words and diction the same as with Kerry and Kurtan. Kerry is a chatterbox and quite wise sometimes : then she'll be a bit daft or too trusting for her own good. She hasn't had any boundaries in life and tends to sulk. A bit childish and obviously neglected as a child.
Very well observed.

The little sentences they put up at various times about the countryside and it's drawbacks are probably true! I'd love to know where they get their sats from.

GCAcademic · 04/03/2020 11:02

Yes, the text about rural life and young people is definitely true. There was one in the driving lesson episode about lack of transport being the major barrier for young people entering work / participating in society. That is most definitely a major issue, there are lots of villages in that area that have no public transport at all.

For 3/4 years I lived in Glos, just off the A38, Gloucester one way,Tewkesbury the other. The Last bus from our village to Gloucester ran at 6pm. Last bus back from Gloucester to our village was at 4.00pm.Grin

Mooserp · 04/03/2020 13:16

I think there's an old fashioned charm to it too. They're not overwhelmed by technology and their world is very small.

The excitement over seeing an ambulance and going to see a decaying animal. And the stories they retell of things that happened at a village event . It's funny but also realistic.

Inkanta · 04/03/2020 13:29

I think there's an old fashioned charm to it too

Yes it reminds me of my playing out days - going out exploring with my mates.
