Just caught up then realised the thread was full.

Sister Monica joan’s flowers.

Cried like a seal.

My garden didn’t bloom and for me the sunshine failed. My buds were perfect but not for here.

And the hairy bud who grew and blossomed in my care soaked up the love.

Missing the three of you more than you know. X

What about the seeds sown the other week about Nurse Crane being ill?
Did the young nun not tell anyone about Dr McNulty?
I read that two more series are planned.

MrsSlocombesPussy · 24/02/2020 08:41

So we should get to 1967 then, which is the year of my birth. I'm finding it fascinating now because it's covering the time period when my parents were newlyweds and my grandparents were the age I am now.
My paternal grandparents moved out of a 2 bedroom terrace into a modern council maisonette around this time. It must have felt luxurious as they had a modern kitchen with gas cooker (previously they had one of the old fashioned ranges), central heating and indoor bathroom.

NumbersStation · 24/02/2020 08:49

Kind of the same here mrs slocombe

I’m going to watch it with my mam.

The Barnado's boy with the 2 women, both pregn. reminded me of dad. Though he was worse and he wasn't an orphan, none of it came out for 25 years.

I thought that the new doc. was already on the pethidine when he started.

Pebble21uk · 24/02/2020 09:52

Couldn't work out where I'd seen 2 timing Banardo boy before either... it was Gentleman Jack - he played John Booth.

Someone said upthread that 2 more series have already been commissioned - I really can't see that it has more than one left in it to be honest!

Did anyone else feel that Val's gran was channelling Lou Beale from EastEnders?

MrsSlocombesPussy · 24/02/2020 10:20

Feeling old because I remember Ann Mitchell in the 1980's series Widows!

ppeatfruit · 24/02/2020 10:23

Sorry I don't watch EE she WAS Lou Beale wasn't she?

MadameLeFunky · 24/02/2020 10:32

About time they gave Dr Turners wife, Shelagh, some new glasses. She’s worn the same ones for years.

My grandad - who would have been a similar age at the time - seemed to wear the same glasses all his life. I think he just kept buying identical pairs Grin

MadameLeFunky · 24/02/2020 10:34

Sorry I don't watch EE she WAS Lou Beale wasn't she?

Nope. Anna Wing (actress) died a few years ago.

MrsSlocombesPussy · 24/02/2020 10:41

She was Cora in EastEnders (Tanya's mum)

ppeatfruit · 24/02/2020 12:13

Oh thank you Madame and MrsSlocombe Grin As you can tell I don't watch EE it's too damn miserable.

dh and I actually laughed at the flowers flying across the hospital ward last night Grin

Glitterblue · 24/02/2020 13:33

@pebble21uk 2 timing man was also in Downton Abbey but he looked extremely different!!

5foot5 · 24/02/2020 13:46

I think we should all lie down and listen to Acker Bilk

Yes that was my favourite line of the night too. You know I have never paid much attention to Sister Hilda but she is actually rather funny.

MinesaPinot · 24/02/2020 13:58

5foot5 That was the line of the series! I'm going to use that every time I feel stressed from now on. Should be interesting in work....

I've really enjoyed this series, but I did wonder whether, when they got a reprieve for another 12 months, that the next series would be the last one. It will be interesting to see what happens with the young doctor.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/02/2020 15:02

It should have finished a couple of series ago. It's run out of steam.

twosoups1972 · 24/02/2020 16:09

I think last year’s series was better. The whole build up with Val’s grandma being the backstreet abortionist.

FlamingoAndJohn · 24/02/2020 17:31

Amazing Grace finished me off. Bloody twee, cathartic Sunday night telly

And me. And I’m a cynical atheist who’s never given birth.

I loved that the hearing there was a variety of women backing them and protesting and the board was just old white men.

PlomBear · 24/02/2020 19:54

IRL, the order stopped doing midwifery in the 1970s and moved to Birmingham. They worked with the homeless, drug users and HIV patients but now they no longer nurse.

In the Call the Midwife book, Jennifer Worth writes that by 1963, deliveries had dropped to four a five a month. By 1975, only 1% of babies were born at home.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/02/2020 20:30

Catching up now. Surly Violet wouldn't have any power as a councillor.

cheapskatemum · 24/02/2020 20:42

I was sobbing like a good’un at all of it. Glad Trixie finally got her moment of glory this series. Surely Dr McNulty will have to be struck off?

Toddlerteaplease · 24/02/2020 21:03

Yes, that's his career over.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/02/2020 21:05

Can't believe the two timing father was forgiven so easily. Those girls deserve better.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 24/02/2020 23:23

I could not see that the two timing dad was worthy of either women! I was hoping the two women were going to run off to a commune and raise their babies together 🤣

I've known patients ask for relatives to leave the room for something and then died. I strongly believe people choose when to finally let go.

Dr McOffhisface was really stupid to think he'd get away with it, he should definitely be struck off so dishonest.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 25/02/2020 06:51

I couldn’t see the point of the druggie doctors plot line at all. It didn’t bring anything to the program.

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/02/2020 07:02

My father in law died when the cleaner came into the room and my husband and brother in law went out for a cup of tea. I have heard plenty of other stories like this. My own father said his goodbyes, said he wasn't getting better and had to 'get on with it' then, unexpectedly, died in the night in hospital.
