Male depression storylines in Hollyoaks

Is anyone a viewer of this show? It seems it’s all coming to the forefront.

Kyle is currently distraught after Nancy loses their baby after being stabbed.

Luke is a depressed alcoholic who feels guilt that his son was sexually abused.

Tony is suffering from PTSD and keeps having panic attacks.

And Darren, who nobody is noticing, is suffering a major mental breakdown.

And on top of all of that, a county lines drug storyline is about to be introduced and dealers are currently targeting kids and (aforementioned) stabbing people.

I’m enjoying watching it, but this is one of the darkest periods I can remember from this show. I know soaps have doom and gloom but this seems to be relentless at the moment.

I agree! It's relentless. Tonight's episode made me feel so sad! (Mitchell coming out to his grandad). And they keep killing people off. There's no light relief.

It's been dark for ages, I think since the Silas storylines it's gotten progressively worse by ending couples who were amazing (Doug and ste, Brendan and ste, Nancy and Darren, even Diane and Tony as we all know he's not going to stick around for long when the truth about what her and his dad have been up to comes out) and sending all the older characters away. The way people are leaving is often an unworthy end to the time in the show such as amy and dirk.
All of the comments on the Facebook page is about how dark it is now, and asking how many serial killers can one village have. I reckon there'll be a new killer by June to be honest.
I miss the days of storylines such as Tina giving up her baby and then struggling with that, and stephs cancer journey. Even when something totally mental happened such as the church(?) blowing up with all the mcqueens inside it was the kind of thing that didn't happen every week so everyone was shocked.
I think the last couple of things that truly shocked me was the bus crash and the door falling on the head bully (cannot remember her name for the life of me), and the Finn/John Paul storyline. Everything else has happened one straight after the other with no breathing space and so in a way I've become desensitised to it. Even them going to the festival and hoping it was going to be a nice chance to show some of the characters having fun after a shitty time of it everyone knew something bad would happen to at least one of them.

I still get shocked even though massive things happen every week. For example, I predicted Jesse was going to due to the cinematography that episode but was still shocked that they got rid of him so suddenly, iyswim.

I do love the show though. Imagine that musical sequence they had in yesterday's show when the whole village was dancing to Mitchell's coming out in Coronation Street Grin. Viewers would have heart attacks Grin I love the text messages on the screen, flashbacks, dream sequences...it's got it all!

Oh, and the music of course

*Jesse was going to die

Namechanging time gosh how long have you been watching it for? I've only really started watching it properly the last three years or so, but the original characters like Tony and Mandy were familiar to me as I must have dipped in and out when I was a teenager. How has it changed over the years in terms of the cinematography?

Sorry sunshine for the delay! I can't remember exactly when I got properly into it, but the Tina storyline is 2008 and I was just dipping into it, then got into it more in 2009 with the carmel/Calvin/Theresa storyline and just carried on watching it when I could. I'm a 2000 baby so was quite young and didn't get to choose what to watch most of the time until I was 11ish. Around 2014/2015 I started watching it less and less due to friends getting into it and ruining the episode if I'd missed the e4 episode so was watching it that night on c4 (despite telling them I hadn't seen it so please not to say anything!!). I still keep up on the Facebook and Instagram pages and sometimes watch the omnibus on a Sunday if I have time/can be bothered.
