Is anyone else planning to watch this six part series? I vaguely remembered the killings and on seeing this advertised have now lost hours to reading up about it online and have also downloaded a book about the case. I’m really looking forward to this one!

Just seen the back end of the repeat. Such a creepy case. Is there any realistic chance Bamber isn't guilty?

I don’t think there’s a chance in hell that he isn’t guilty.
I think the case was handled appallingly from the beginning when it was just assumed it was a murder/suicide. Dreadful mistakes were made that could have seen Jeremy walk away from it.

There were key issues with things like times written down and confusion over what times calls were made etc. This wouldn’t happen today as it would all be logged by computer.

Jeremy spends his time pouring over the case files and finding every tiny discrepancy to pounce on. Then Again he doesn’t have much else to do with his time.

I'm very glad Cressida B didn't marry Harry because she's got the makings of a very good actress. She was the best thing in it!

Will the stuff about the family background come out in later episodes ? (I've only seen the first, have there been more yet?). So far it seems to be very gentle on them. Not that it changes the facts but it would make a more interesting drama/mystery!

Interestingly, there goes appear to be a call log of Neville Bamber calling police to say his daughter had 'gone beserk'. That does put some doubt in my mind - although it could have been a hitman pretending to be him.

@AdoptedBumpkin why didn't the police act on this then? Why did they wait until son called?

Report
AdoptedBumpkin · 15/01/2020 14:53

Supposedly they sent two cars out but things got confused later.

Police notes were written like Neville made the call, it was actually Jeremy who called the police to say that his Dad had called him to say Sheila had “gone beserk”. It was lazy note taking by the police.

There is an interview with Colin Caffell in this weeks Best.

Bamber seems to think he has proof there were two calls, but he would I suppose.

Stephen Graham is really over-acting.

Would a vet honestly do this?!

Report
AdoptedBumpkin · 15/01/2020 22:10

I thought that was odd with the vet.

Report
Deadposhtory · 15/01/2020 22:30

A vet wouldn't do that!!

I was getting really frustrated at how they were all traipsing through the crime scene and touching the door/bed etc, without being in special suits. (Maybe I have watched too much Line of Duty!) And burning everything....??!! Why wouldnt the police want to explore all possibilities?
And yes we were incredulous about the vet. I'm sure they wouldnt euthanise a seemingly healthy dog just because you didn't want it!

Jesus the victim blaming on the Essex Live fb page is sickening.

People are weird about murderers.

I can't believe a vet would put down a healthy dog.

That little dog played dead beautifully.😊
I do hope that didn't really happen and was just included for dramatic effect.

I was getting really frustrated at how they were all traipsing through the crime scene and touching the door/bed etc, without being in special suits.

Sadly, this is just what did happen. The crime scene wasn’t preserved and numerous people who had no business being there were allowed to parade in and out, tramping all over the house. Essex Police then apparently thought it appropriate to hold a training exercise at the crime scene.

To follow in the same vein, the relatives then miraculously ‘found’ a sound moderator in a cupboard that had supposedly already been searched. Did they immediately tell the police? No. They took it home and tampered with it by unscrewing the baffles. Therefore, it should have formed absolutely no part of the evidence as it had been interfered with. The entire investigation was a clusterfuck. No wonder Essex Police are still withholding evidence some 35 years later.

Would a vet really not do that in this day and age? I know for a fact they would’ve back then.
