My father had equally appalling care in another hospital as a retired NHS consultant. Ironically one of the wards was absolutely brilliant and he was very well cared for. The next ward was appalling and he ended up discharging himself after two weeks. The nursing care was negligible , the consultant was totally disinterested. There was the odd good nurse who happened to be a non-degree one and the physios were very good. At one stage my father was told they were going to restrict fluids by a medical student as the doctor in charge - a gp was too busy to speak to him herself. This was a real kick in the teeth as he had spent years looking after very sick patients for the Nhs and there was absolutely no respect for him

I can well believe there are wards like this in every hospital. It really upset me to watch this program and it was very truthful and parallelled our families experience. We have several current and exNhs family members and lots of experience. The current state of care in the Nhs is appalling.

I live in the area and there was a lot of anxiety and anger around 2013 that the hospital would lose services, particularly maternity and A&E. It now only has a midwife-led unit and no A&E at night. However, I don't think it's fair to blame Julie Bailey for this, as she was right to highlight the poor care her mother received and to campaign for change, not just at Stafford but throughout the NHS.

So sad to watch Sad

Really disliked the woman playing the daughter though. Not sure if it was just the character she was playing.

So I'm watching it now and I'm beyond angry at that horrible nurse and so angry the mum let herself be kicked out of the ward oh my god and now there's something wrong with the dog!!

Yes I was thinking in response to the above comments also that it can't be Julie's fault that the services have closed down. They shouldn't have got bad in the first place!

It was a very powerful story

And very worrying that comment at the end that it is inevitable that they'll be another situation like this somewhere

And I can't believe the backlash she got for all this!

So distressing when that man was so thirsty near the beginning

purpleme12 · 23/12/2019 23:48

And to think when they said hundreds have probably died cos of problems with the hospital.... Shocking
