I've now watched the BBC2 documentary which is more about Ward than CK.
And as a straight forward narrative it is easier to follow.
But ... what it highlights is of course the hypocrasy of the press. Even though Ward may have been a complete sleeze bag, CK a bit lacking in common sense and MRD a survivor, it is clear that had the papers chosen to tell the real story a lot of damage to individuals caused by the establishment cover up wouldn't have happen.
The reporter (Tom Magold?) may have thought he was coming over as remorseful for his part but he so clearly relished the cheque book journalism, beating another paper to get an interview and so on, that his gloating made me really angry.
We know today that many complex and disturbing stories are distorted and not truely told because to the media other people's suffering is their opportunity to exploit. (And of course, we the readers are part of the problem).
What a grubby way to earn a living.
And have to say I had entirely forgotten that the Denning Report was because of this establishment scandal.
At least it would have made the sacrifices of those who were just the play things of the rich and powerful a bit better if somehow it had changed the system.
But it hasn't.
