BBC drama starts 29th December 9pm

Yeah I know I'm early with this thread, but I can't wait.
I know nothing about this other than the brief articles I've read but it just looks like my kind of drama.

When Profumo started on about the horror of his war experiences, he just reminded me of Prince Andrew and his overdose of adrenaline during the Falklands conflict.

It was whataboutery. To guilt trip Valerie into shutting up.

I've now watched the BBC2 documentary which is more about Ward than CK.

And as a straight forward narrative it is easier to follow.

But ... what it highlights is of course the hypocrasy of the press. Even though Ward may have been a complete sleeze bag, CK a bit lacking in common sense and MRD a survivor, it is clear that had the papers chosen to tell the real story a lot of damage to individuals caused by the establishment cover up wouldn't have happen.

The reporter (Tom Magold?) may have thought he was coming over as remorseful for his part but he so clearly relished the cheque book journalism, beating another paper to get an interview and so on, that his gloating made me really angry.

We know today that many complex and disturbing stories are distorted and not truely told because to the media other people's suffering is their opportunity to exploit. (And of course, we the readers are part of the problem).

What a grubby way to earn a living.

And have to say I had entirely forgotten that the Denning Report was because of this establishment scandal.

At least it would have made the sacrifices of those who were just the play things of the rich and powerful a bit better if somehow it had changed the system.

But it hasn't.

Sad

Maybe he enjoyed an odd evening out with his children at Pizza Express Woking?

I loved Valerie’s speech, she was completely spot on with what she said about young girls.

She was spot on, maybe a little bit too much so. I kind of felt her attitude was a bit anachronistic, a bit #metoo.

Also, as others have pointed out, Valerie Hobson had quite a colourful past herself, with numerous affairs. The series chose to potray her as the sterotypical long-suffering wife, but this isn't quite who she was. I think a more nuanced portrayal of her would have been a lot more interesting. As it was, she was simply a cliche.

I think James Norton was fabulous in this, i think he was channeling John Hurt
