Is anyone interested in this? Apparently they are filming in Grassington this week

The characters/appearance of Siegfried and Tristan were swapped about for the TV series, so this casting is more true to the books.

fishybits · 18/10/2019 17:51

I've just finished listening to Christopher Timothy reading the books on Audible. I love the stories and the tv series.

MilkGoatee · 18/10/2019 18:03

Oh, nobody can possibly beat Robert Hardy's irrascibility! And him bringing his own dogs to the set all the time. We've got all episodes in a box set, our "go to" if we can't find anything else to watch. And I've got the omnibus of the books (I think it's 7) - quite a number of years ago for 50p in a charity shop, such a gem.

"Stagnation o' 't lung, you'll see!"

"Propopamide, M'Lord!"

"It's them massticks again, Mr Heriot"

'E's womiting. Womiting baaaad.'

I wonder if they'll have Mrs Pumphrey and Tricki Woo, and his letters to 'Uncle Herriot' Grin

BestIsWest · 19/10/2019 19:58

I can’t wait. I adored the books as a teenager and gave reread many times. I was 15 when the TV series began and had a bit of a crush on Peter Davison as Tristan. Robert Hardy was the real star though.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/10/2019 22:24

@fishybits I love it where he's clearly trying really hard not to laugh!

Toddlerteaplease · 19/10/2019 22:25

Freinds of knew the real JH and his son, but they hate the series as he was from Glasgow, not English as he's portrayed.

FlamboyantBaroque · 19/10/2019 22:40

I loved the books as a teen and each new novel was was eagerly anticipated. I would read each one in one sitting. I re-read them about 5 years ago and the nostalgia was almost unbearable. Christopher Timothy was never James in my opinion, although I loved Robert Hardy and Peter Davidson as Siegfried and Tristan.

I made a pilgrimage to the practice in Thirsk after re-reading the books. It was surreal to be standing in Alf's consulting room. The only disappointment was that dogs aren't allowed in Grin

Robin2323 · 20/10/2019 10:14

Loved all the books, films and tv series.
John Alderton from the 2nd film was my James.

spiderlight · 20/10/2019 10:56

We went to Thirsk last summer on our holiday in Yorkshire but again we couldn't go round the museum because we had our dog with us.

BackforGood · 21/10/2019 23:02

Ooh. Not sure about a re-make at all.
It was so beautifully done with the original series.
The books were so beautifully written and the series was too - be better to just replay it than try to re-make.

EleanorReally · 23/10/2019 06:20

i loved the original , particularly Robert Hardy. Dont think they can top it, but I guess they can try

amigababy · 03/11/2019 00:01

I read the books so many times, wish I still had them.
What I do have is the sheet music of the theme tune, I used to play it as a teenager. Time to dig it out and get practicing again.

ScreamingCosArgosHaveNoRavens · 03/11/2019 00:09

I can't help thinking - nahhh. They'll sex it up and make it crap.

toria658 · 02/09/2020 10:07

Hmm the mercurial but kind nature of Siegfried is very lacking and the calm stoic nature of Herriot is missing and substituted for blind subservience. Pretty, well shot but the characters are underwhelming imo.
