Is anyone else watching?
I’m finding this episode quite interesting as our weekly budget is very similar to the Ross family, yet I don’t feel like we struggle and can have some treats.
What I would do with £1200 a week though 😂

That's my monthly wage as well. Lol. Luckily we both work.

WaterSheep · 03/10/2019 21:40

I'm still in shock that Anne cleans for her older daughters.

Span1elsRock · 03/10/2019 22:03

Interesting "rich house" in the middle of a council estate and with a tacky second hand RR Confused

This was such a good series originally, now it's too formulaic and predictable. She clearly went on it to promote her business.

cardamoncoffee · 03/10/2019 22:05

I feel very sorry for the Ross children, two children sharing a single bed? Between them they have 9 children and live in a 3 bed house. I don't know why they thought having so many was a sensible idea. Anne could easily work, I don't think her husband looked very impressed when she said she would like to though. I hope they are able to go on holiday somewhere.

ListenLinda · 04/10/2019 06:17

Admittedly I don’t have as many children, I didn’t take that into account, silly of me. All them kids sharing a room 😞
I’ve never heard of Teri Anns company before, did anyone catch the name?

^This is TerriAnn's website. Kudos to her for doing so well. Money doesn't seem to have made her forget her roots or have given her a sense of entitlement.

Span1el I agree that the nature of the programme has really changed. It used to be a very MC family who did lots of stereotypical MC activities and a family with a lot less disposable income than £200+ per week. It was always really interesting to see the reaction of the 'poor' family when they joined the pony club, took music lessons etc. Last night's 'rich' family didn't seem to do any special activities?

cardamoncoffee · 04/10/2019 07:41

I just read the comments on the The Sun regarding the programme and Mike Ross (the poor dad) has been commenting saying the show was so heavily curated and edited, they didn't have any control of the money and were told exactly what to say. It seems the passports/holiday wasn't their intention at all. He seems very angry about it, albeit a bit naive about the nature of filming for tv.

ListenLinda · 04/10/2019 07:47

I can’t imagine that having passports would of been high on the priority list either. There is no money to save at all, it did seem a bit odd.

£100 each on toys. Wow

Having 4 kids in one room doesn’t sound right when 2 kids have to share a bed

What will Happen in a few years time when needs own bed - tho tbh I feel a child needs own bed from day 1 - unless twins and share a cot for a few months

Guess getting passports now they might get a holiday abroad within 5yrs

Esp if KYM goes back to work. She could work - all kid are at school - or do an evening cleaning job etc

Limer · 04/10/2019 15:55

I didn’t think this episode was as good as usual, mainly because Terri-Ann had previously lived under an even tighter budget than the poor house, so she visibly relished being able to prove that she could manage it again! And of course she was promoting her business. What I normally love is seeing the rich middle-class family run out of money, turn their noses up at Aldi tinned spaghetti, forget about budgeting for electric/gas top-ups and have a rather awkward evening trying to socialise at the poor family’s local pub Grin

I didn’t understand the passport idea either?

But I did like seeing Mick (the poor house dad) astonished at what the cleaner earned! He was a total unreconstructed misogynist, assumed the rich house was entirely down to the other dad’s earnings, had never shopped or cooked for his family.

But it’s always the same conclusion that’s drawn – if the poor family had fewer children and both parents were in paid jobs, they’d be much richer. Anne seemed both a lovely person and very capable, she could turn her hand to anything. I just hope her dinosaur of a husband lets her fulfil her dreams!

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/10/2019 17:03

I wish they swapped with the same number of kids

So rich kids having their own bedrooom having to share with 3 others in one room. For example

Yes this hasn't been the case for ages. Increasingly the rich families come away saying they've had a really great time and enjoyed the games consoles and tvs in every room.

@Limer there has also been an increase of SAHM's with children at school who say they are sick of being poor and their dc having nothing but yet getting a job hasn't occurred to them. As Mick Ross said though the show is heavily curated and we only see half of the situation. Apparently Anne is a carer for the elderly now.

Limer · 04/10/2019 18:23

That's great news about Anne cardamoncoffee I bet she's doing really well as a carer.

I think it's a crying shame that a woman like her has such narrow horizons and low expectations of herself. Wanting to feel useful and appreciated to such an extent that she kept having children, and even carried on mothering the ones that have left home. Just imagine how successful she'd be if she started her own business!

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/10/2019 23:11

Yes a cleaning business lol

And charge her daughters

cardamoncoffee · 05/10/2019 07:13

According to the dad her cleaning for them daily isn't true, it was for the cameras. The children are all university educated professionals who are independent. I wonder why more people don't speak out if this is the case.

ListenLinda · 05/10/2019 07:32

I wonder if more will come out and comment about the editing? Or whether it’s just a case of Mr Ross being a bit disgruntled?

Iv followed that Terri-Ann for a while and she has constantly showed off on Facebook for the past few years.

cardamoncoffee · 10/10/2019 21:38

What do we think of tonight's families? Claire getting her toenails done out of the budget really annoyed me. I missed the start of the programme so don't know if the 'poor' woman works?

worcestersauce29 · 10/10/2019 22:12

I'm just watching on plus one....

ListenLinda · 11/10/2019 03:03

Not too sure if she does work to be honest, I must of missed it too.

£450 in one shop 😂 wow.

OP posts:
cardamoncoffee · 11/10/2019 07:35

It seemed she worked very PT as she said if the husband wanted to pursue an apprentice tattoo artist she'd have to increase her hours.

I hope the rich family help him out financially. Did anyone else love their fairy cottage?

ListenLinda · 11/10/2019 08:23

I liked the cottage more than the main house!

OP posts:
ListenLinda · 11/10/2019 08:24

I don’t think they are allowed to help the other family financially.

OP posts:
jay55 · 11/10/2019 08:56

I missed the end as fell asleep. I couldn't warm to the poor family this week.

All the whining about not having help when they clearly did have help from their friends and neighbours (letting them use the tumble drier!) and whining about the husband needing a big break/leg up rather than him getting off his arse and doing something about it.
If he'd been working 2 jobs and had no time i might have had more sympathy but he worked 4 days a week.

Don't usually feel anything like so grumpy about them.

cardamoncoffee · 11/10/2019 09:56

I must have missed the whinging jay

I liked the cottage better too! I wonder about the practicality of renting your home out for a night, surely you'd have to move everything of yours out of sight? That would be a complete pain.
