All that money on that dress, what a waste! Just shows money can't buy class (and im not posh!)

Agree the older bloke thing was setting off alarm buttons in my head no wonder her family are not impressed!

Glad that the girl who was engaged at 10 was happy, they seemed like a good couple she had her head screwed on.

Loved the dress that the one with the army husnad had thought it was stunning.

Couldn't stand the outfit the pg one had on - surely you can get nicer wedding outfits even when pg with twins?

tiredemma · 10/08/2007 07:20

the older bloke was weird- when she asked what he thought when he first saw her "what a cute arse" - bearing in mind she was 16. Wrong.

I really liked the young girl getting married to the soldier, not sure I would my mom coming on my hen do dressed as 'Moulin Rouge' but - different strokes for different folks.

The ones with the twins- the poor bloke looks as if he is going to be henpecked for life.

The girl with the arranged marriage was very mature, and clearly very much in love. Her husband seemed very nice.

nomdeplume · 10/08/2007 16:25

Oh, DH and I were peeing ourselves watching this. Hilarious.

I thought the girl marrying the soldier was ok (scarily orange though). He came across as far to sensible and nice for her (he was a little, ummmmmmmmmmm, dull). I predict that she will be bored of him within 5yrs.

The arranged marriage couple seemed happy. It was quite nice to see a positive portrayal of AM, usually all we in the West get to see/hear is negative stories of girls being forced into marriage.

The gypsy bride/wedding was very funny. So OTT and chavtastic. Brilliant. It was quite odd to hear her talking about being very traditional and wanting to cook and clean for her DH and being a strict catholic etc, totally at odds with the way she looked (iyswim). Weirdly, neither the bride nor the groom seemed to smile at all during the shots of the wedding reception.

The older guy who married the 18yo was odd. It def seemed like he was the one taking advantage. The 'cute arse' comment (he was 48 and she was 16) made me retch, and the stuff about her head being an 'empty hard-disk not full of rubbish' was a bit worrying... He did a lot of justifying their relationship 'legally, of course, I've done nothing wrong', 'people say I took advantage, but really she took advantage of me. You ask her if I took advantage'.

The girl with the twins made me . She seemed like a sweet girl (most depressing wedding ever?), the fact that she thought that marriage would mean that he was more likely to stay with her made me feel very sorry for her. He didn't look happy to be married at all, he seemed very immature (but then he was only 17). I know it's awful but I seriously doubt those 2 will be together in 3 years time.

nomdeplume · 10/08/2007 16:25

too sensible and nice

expatinscotland · 10/08/2007 16:36

I agree w/NDP's synopsis entirely.

expatinscotland · 10/08/2007 16:37

The old bloke . . . eewwwww.

ricepuddingpaddington · 10/08/2007 16:39

I really enjoyed watching this - had a kind of face on through much of it.

I really liked the Asian couple _ though I was struck by how young she was, despite her maturity when we saw her/their bedroom - all pink post-it notes and pics of horses on the wall.
I agree with ndep about the soldier and his wife - she was very high-maintenance and his idea of a stag do was a bottle of beer with his fil.
And the gypsy wedding - well it is part of the romany culture to marry v young (girls should be virgins) and spend ££££ (and some more££££) on big events like weddings and funerals. But that was sopmething else. And she never cracked her face all day.

nomdeplume · 10/08/2007 16:42

he made my skin crawl. I think they will be together for a while though. Sadly, my guess is that he has got her just where he wants her, a naive, pretty young-girl to mould into anything he desires. He came across as almost predatory .

expatinscotland · 10/08/2007 16:44

Yeah, he struck me as the Charlie Chaplin type. Cringe.

Couldn't believe the traveller bride's dress! OMG!

And the presenter's comment, 'Guess are attired so as not to make the bride feel overdressed.'

nomdeplume · 10/08/2007 16:44

I got the impression that the traveller wedding was also a variation of an arranged marriage. She didn't look very relaxed with her new DH at all.

nomdeplume · 10/08/2007 16:45

some of the congregations outfits were

ricepuddingpaddington · 10/08/2007 16:46

LOVED that shot of the traveller bride face down in the limo with the others trying to get her dress in. "Just keep pushing it in - is it all in yet?"

ricepuddingpaddington · 10/08/2007 16:47

Yes ndep, the two girls trotting down the road in boob tubes and teeny mini skirts in matching fuschia.

nomdeplume · 10/08/2007 16:47

oh yes, I was LOLing at that, Dh came in from the kitchen to see what I was shrieking at and couldn't quite believe it. He made me rewind the entire programme (Sky+) so he could watch it from the beginning

expatinscotland · 10/08/2007 16:49

The bridesmaid dresses were hysterical!

nomdeplume · 10/08/2007 16:50

Re the brief and scary outfits. I would've thought that they were totally inappropriate for a church.

(even I think that and I'm a rabid Athiest)

expatinscotland · 10/08/2007 16:50

I hope my DD1 finds a marries a bloke like that soldier. Because she's already shaping up to be just like a female version of him.

ricepuddingpaddington · 10/08/2007 16:50

Dont forget the matching cerise baseball caps expat!
