Anyone watching?
Just watching the 2nd episode. This is actually a really good programme. Quite awe inspiring. I kind of can't wait to see the next one

I can't believe Arg gave up because people were overtaking him? I can't understand that

To me all these people dropping out says it's unachievable

It's a great programme but I think it would actually have been better/ more interesting to take reasonably competent pool swimmers and trained them up in 12 weeks for the Channel.

Goatrider · 13/09/2019 07:15

I've never encountered Arg before, he seems quite a complicated character. Wasn't nice how he made Alex feel.

purpleme12 · 13/09/2019 07:27

I just couldn't understand it to be honest.

I have liked him apart from that. Didn't watch that other programme he's been in so didn't know him

Arg always drops out if everything. I thought he might actually do this one

millimat · 14/09/2019 08:41

I'm a bit disappointed. Having watched the programme on tues, I've come on here to see opinions on it so far, but guess other people know the outcome from what you are saying?Angry

purpleme12 · 14/09/2019 12:18

I don't know the outcome? I don't think anyone does? Not the public anyway

OP posts:
millimat · 14/09/2019 17:56

Well I've not seen Arg drop out?

Goatrider · 14/09/2019 22:41

I asked mnhq to put 'spoilers' in the title but they refused 🤷‍♀️

Starlight456 · 14/09/2019 22:50

Well this is a thread I wish I hadn’t read . I agree should have spoilers in title . Arg is generally a waste of space in everything he does starts he is gout to be great then isn’t . He clearly didn’t like Alex had worked far harder than he had.

NumbersStation · 15/09/2019 15:05

Hats off to those involved - especially with the preparation time.

But crikey o'reilly, Arg is a bloody big joy vacuum. Rejoice in the achievement and experience instead of whining. He is a great big petulant baby and is the same on every programme he has been on.

owlonabike · 17/09/2019 20:11

I’d never come across Arg before and I thought at first he was an asset to the team. Physically struggling but doing his best with a smile on his face, and generally upbeat and supportive. But then he had that crisis of confidence/ sulk and I thought, “He’s upset that Alex has beaten him”. And so it proved. Can’t imagine how Alex felt, but although the meeting made me cringe, I was glad the issue was aired.

owlonabike · 17/09/2019 20:19

Didn’t see Alex in the trailer for last week and said to DH that I thought he’d dropped out (for physical rather than motivation reasons). So pleased he was there and that he appears to have cracked the stamina thing. He’s a prickly character, very funny but not easy to warm to and it’s been really interesting to see him open up.
Also like the fact that they’ve got Olympians who are obviously fit, and used to working through pain, but who were so clearly out of their comfort zone at first.
Overall, I’m loving this programme.

ToEarlyForDecorations · 17/09/2019 20:25

Yep, me too.

I've got one hot crush on Alex Brooker

purpleme12 · 17/09/2019 20:30

Oh I don't think he's a prickly character

OP posts:
Goatrider · 18/09/2019 19:19

No I don't either, I think he's a very nice, friendly person.

Just watched the final episode. So much respect for what they achieved, from barely being able to swim to leaping into the channel in the dark, and being so close to completing it.

The story of the young woman was so sad. I think it put the whole thing into perspective.

ImAShowPony · 18/09/2019 20:45

Yeah I feel disappointed for them- but not disappointed in them... They were heroic and only defeated by the weather. If conditions had been better they would have made it.
Can't imagine any of them will carry on open water swimming as a hobby though...

Starlight456 · 18/09/2019 21:52

Yes . Respect to all of them .

ImAShowPony · 19/09/2019 08:03

I hope they raise loads of money.

purpleme12 · 19/09/2019 13:34

Why did they all stay on the Devon coast apart from Simon??

And why did everyone wear wetsuits apart from Arg? Curious

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 19/09/2019 13:37

Did make me laugh when Greg came into the house and said I broke the lamp... Which I'm not paying for!

OP posts:
Cherrypie32 · 19/09/2019 14:18

I didn’t watch nearly enough of this but wish I had seen more. Why did people on here imply that Arg didn’t do the challenge? Did Simon? I didn’t see him on the boat.

Goatrider · 19/09/2019 15:38

Simon was hardly mentioned throughout. When they said he was staying with the rest of the team I was waiting for a reason, but none was given. Don't know if he had other commitments or had fallen out with them?!

I think the referencse to Arg dropping out were to do with the river swim, when he stopped after Alex overtook him.

Goatrider · 19/09/2019 15:39

sorry, that should have said 'he wasn't staying with the rest of the team'

Goatrider · 19/09/2019 15:41

With the wetsuits - Arg never wore one. I don't know if he chose not to or maybe there wasn't one to fit him.
