Same here SgtFredColonSad Hopefully we're wrong though!

FedUpOfItNow · 01/09/2019 22:43

I think the timing is right for it. When they announced the film I really wasn't bothered but have gotten really excited since seeing the first trailer.

We have only just discovered Downton Abbey this year-and it has literally given my extremely disabled mum something to get her through very long days of having to lie in bed, in pain and not being allowed/able to get up. It has been a life saver-she is currently rewatching the whole series for the 4th time! I cannot thank the cast enough, it’s hard to explain how much something like this can mean to the housebound. She can finally sit in a wheelchair for short periods and we are making plans to spend that time at the cinema watching Downton!
If Mumsnet can get an interview, she would like to know if any of the cast will do Strictly Come Dancing-her other love! I would just like to know if Thomas gets a happy ever after! As a pp says, it’s about time-and he deserves some love!

Meeeeeee

Rachelover40 · 03/09/2019 01:38

I'm really looking forward to seeing it. Also enjoying the repeats on ITV3. Loved the series.

Labrodite · 03/09/2019 23:58

That’s so nice to hear that it’s brought some comfort to your mum trockodile Flowers

MrsElizabethShelby · 04/09/2019 20:45

Surprising number of us going alone! Any mumsnetters want to meet me at the 4.20pm showing at Nottingham showcase deluxe?

MrsElizabethShelby · 04/09/2019 20:46

On the 13th that is

QueenOfTheAndals · 06/09/2019 11:41

One week and counting!

Verdict?

I enjoyed but did feel like they were taking the piss in places...

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/09/2019 23:34

I enjoyed it! It did feel like one of the Christmas specials but it was good fun and damn, Maggie Smith brought a tear to my eye!

I visited Harewood House last month so it was interesting recognising all the rooms I saw and the gardens etc.

Mum and I both thoroughly enjoyed it. She said she felt she had spent a lovely evening with old friends. It did feel more like a Xmas special..........spoiler alert........

I was thrilled that Barrow found someone nice and has some hope of happiness-ditto Branson. Would have liked more of both and especially with Branson more interaction before the ‘twist’ was common knowledge. Some hilarious one liners from the Dowager though, and a nice, but believable reaction from her.

Definitely worth seeing and we will probably go again!

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/09/2019 09:32

Another spoiler alert...

I was disappointed there wasn't a conclusion to the Molesley/Baxter potential romance and what happened to Mrs Patmore and Daisy's ex-FiL? In fact what happened to all Daisy's ambition? All that studying and learning how to run a farm and she's still only assistant cook!

I enjoyed the movie. Very Downton, easy to watch, beautiful costumes. All with the possibility of a second movie

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 14/09/2019 15:21

The reviews have said it would have been more appropriate as a Christmas special. Why didn't they just do another series then, as I believe this series sells well worldwide? Is it about money? It seems a bit silly to do a cinematic piece that in the end feels more appropriately placed for TV and leaves questions unanswered.

Still, I'll go see it anyway!

Bluewavescrashing · 14/09/2019 15:24

I'm going tomorrow!

Rockbird · 14/09/2019 15:40

Saw it yesterday. Enjoyed every minute but I can see what the actors have been saying, it gives the fans what they want. Not enough Robert and Cora though.

southeastdweller · 14/09/2019 16:02

It was enjoyable but I was a little disappointed.

Spoilers:

Thought the sub-plot of the Downton servants 'overthrowing' the Royal servants was like something out of a kids TV show - so dull and unfunny.

Good to know that Barrow finally got a shag!

desperatehousewife21 · 14/09/2019 16:02

I’m going tomorrow with my mum, sister and niece. Can’t wait proper girls cinema trip!

HappyGirl86 · 14/09/2019 17:40

I thought it was fab! Made me laugh and cry. Want to go and see it again already

BMW6 · 14/09/2019 22:01

Good to know that Barrow finally got a shag!

Not in the version I saw on Friday - he got to do the Tango with a fella and had a quick kiss with another, but no shag unless I blinking well fell asleep Smile

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/09/2019 22:39

Yes it was more the promise of a future shag. Poor Barrow must have the bluest balls in Yorkshire - no action since the duke in the first episode, and that was 1912!

Rob J-C is still gorgeous though...

Dh and I went tonight - I loved it!

Rhubarb01 · 15/09/2019 17:35

Just been to see it, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Perfect Sunday afternoon fayre! I left with a smile on my face. Fabulous costumes - just unashamedly Downton, and why not!

LifeOfBox · 15/09/2019 17:39

I went last night. I only liked it, thought it didn't have enough going on in places and far too much Kinging and Queening.

I thought Barrow had shagged the bloke from the palace. Got the impression they had spent the night together.

I thought the overthrowing of the palace staff was done in a really naff way.

6/10 from me and that's only because I love the clothing.
