We are MAHOOSIVE DA fans here, and IMO I think the remakes are very very good.

Thought it was going to be another remake where no one looks remotely like an original nor sounds like them nor have any characteristics- yes, looking at YOU David Bradley-not-a-bit-like-William-Dr WHo-HArtnell!

Anyway, after a while you forget they aren't the originals, of COURSE theyre not going to be exactly the same but I think IMO they've done a pretty good job with it.

Any other opinions?

I thought 'Sgt.Wilson' was spot on.

TitianaTitsling · 26/08/2019 21:15

Signing in!! Thought Matthew Horne much better than l expected as Walker, not enjoying Rosenthal as Pike- too much 'acting' with the turning. Blake Harrison much better.

QuiQuaiQuod · 26/08/2019 21:18

Agree re Sgtr Wilson.

Frazer got more Frazery as tonights episode went on.

Kevin McNally is good as Mainwaring (and Capt Square was spot on!) but surprised they didn't get John Sessions as he was really really spot on in the drams 'We're doomed, the DA story'. Still Kevin McN good choice too.

Yes, do thik Tom R weakest link casting wise.

Only thing that slightly irks me, and it may just be our TV... It's v glossy, can't decide if would have preferred a slightly older camera? Thought Corporal-Colonel Squire was spot on tonight! Fancy a game of 'Here's to the health of Cardinal Puff-puff"? 🥂

Blinkyblonkyblimey · 26/08/2019 21:23

My grandad was in the Home Guard during WWII and he used to love Dad’s Army. Confession: I remember watching this episode with him when it was broadcast in 1969 - I’m really that old!! Think the remakes are spot on. Brought back a little bit of my childhood.

Namechange3007 · 26/08/2019 21:24

What channel are these on?

QuiQuaiQuod · 26/08/2019 21:25

LOVE the Cardinal Puff puff game Grin.!

And in that episode when he says 'damn revolving doors!'

Our tv is okay, its good they kept the original theme tune and channeld the opening titles, plus the old songs between scenes.

wonder if Hodges or the vicar are in the third lost episode?

Heres to the health...erm I mean, heres to tomorrows episode Wink.

Signing off now, at ease, fall out, will tune in later when I can.

We are also massive DA fans here and we haven’t bothered with tonight’s as we were so disappointed with last nights . I really wanted to like it , and I really like Matthew Horne but Walker was one of my favourite characters and he’s just not right for the part .

QuiQuaiQuod · 26/08/2019 21:32

Just before I sign off....I really thought, Floralnomad that it wasn't going to live up to the hype, I'm super pedantic, so I was pleasantly surprised.

Did you all hear the live audience when Jones said 'they don't like it up 'em?' they were cheering that line.

Walker and Godfrey are my fave characters in DA .

Don't like Matthew Horne but hes not too bad at it. But yes, James Beck just had THAT cheeky twinkle. Also, now I think of it, I haven't seen this 'new' Walker with a ciggy in his hand.

A nod to political coorectness and Health and safety perhaps?

ooh yes qui didn't pick up on that, prob new regulations! Heres to the health for the 2nd time...

TitianaTitsling · 27/08/2019 20:02

Last episode... Quickly! Get in here!

QuiQuaiQuod · 27/08/2019 21:03

Floral know what helped? The fact the cast said they weren't the originals of course but think of it as a Tribute bad.

Like the bootleg Beatles or Bjorn again.

made me enjoy it more thinking like that, but I tell you what, they were all very good (apart from Tom Rosenthal but not too bad either), and Tracy Anne Oberman was very good as Mavis Pike, I have to say.

Hodges sounded like Hodges (assume it was him) but I think they should have got, as alookalike, the guy who played Milner in Foyles War.

Same close-set eyes!

Really have enjoyed them, will watch them when they get repeated again.

Square was 100% spot on wasn't he?

Wish the bloody tv people wouldn't squash the end titles (split screen) as I couldn't make out who played the other people in it.

Loved Wilson- 'Do you think that's wise ? '' Brilliant.

Just thought it was done so well you could almost forget they weren't the originals. Almost.

I've been binge watching both the old & new episodes, I lost my dear old dad earlier this year & he always loved Dad's Army. I have loved watching them & it's made me feel much closer to my dad.

QuiQuaiQuod · 27/08/2019 21:14

Nat6999 So sorry to hear that. Glad DA is a comfort. Flowers.

DA's a family favorite since I was a child, so I can understand, .

Me and DH watched the first one and felt a bit disappointed. I think just because the actors were all different. Then watched the second and enjoyed it more and really enjoyed the last one.

I thought all the actors were very good in it

Floralnomad · 28/08/2019 15:12

Well I watched the last one whilst I was cooking dinner last night and I was still unimpressed , I think the episodes were lost for a reason and that reason is they were just poor in comparison to the rest . I really wanted to like them , and I could just about tolerate the Sgt Wilson but the actor playing Jones was dreadful .

QuiQuaiQuod · 02/09/2019 18:16

theres still a couple of lost stories so there may be more to come.

I just realised who Timothy West reminds me of as he gets older....Ena Sharples from Coronation Street! All he needs is a hairnet :)
