Love it @Wrongdissection Grin

TatianaLarina · 09/07/2019 17:10

^^ That was a reply to this:

it's the public reactions it prompts that are very disturbing - this is the first series I've followed and its shocked me.

Casinogirl22 · 09/07/2019 17:12

Love it @Wrongdissection!

Wrongdissection · 09/07/2019 17:18

@islandlove I’m still going. But I demand to be surrounded with sarcasm and wisecracks the whole time 👌🏻

MargoLovebutter · 09/07/2019 17:22

Just trying to imagine a load of random MNers in the villa!!!! That would make entertaining viewing. Grin

islandlove · 09/07/2019 17:24

The MN villa would be more drama filled then Love Island! Judging by these threads anyway

TatianaLarina · 09/07/2019 17:24

Sorry to be a downer but this report in today’s DM (yes I know, sorry) is interesting:

Six former Love Island stars have joined forces to accuse Love Island bosses of making them 'feel suicidal.'

Malin Andersson, 23, Josh Denzel, 26, and Adam Collard, 22, have all spoken out alongside this year's Islander, Callum MacLeod, 28, as well as Paul Knops, 31, and Alex Miller, 28.

They claim that bosses were 'pulling the strings behind the scenes which left them feeling depressed.'....

Malin appeared on the show on the same year as Sophie and claimed to The Ringer that bosses orchestrated the main events on the show.

She said: 'We were like performing monkeys for them. I remember crying a bit.'...

Meanwhile, Adam Collard claimed he was told to steal someone’s girlfriend and become a bad boy figure, or be axed from the show.

He said: 'They interviewed me, they knew my personality, and then they put me in the villa and said, "You’ve got 48 hours [to steal someone’s girl], otherwise you’re gone".'

He claims he was told he would get a lot of bad press but if he could cope with this mentally it would do his career a world of good.

But some contestants in the article say they were well looked after.

Full article Here

Hmmm interesting Tatiana. Although surprised Callum is involved, he was barely shown so wonder what his argument is. The article doesn't say.

fraxion · 09/07/2019 17:31

Love it @Wrongdissection, hilarious 😂

carmenbea · 09/07/2019 17:36

Very interesting read. Would also like to know what Callum means or is he just bitter he got kicked out early? I do actually believe Adam and that is so out of order but he went along with it nonetheless Sad

Sagradafamiliar · 09/07/2019 17:41

I didn't realise Malin was so young, she has been through so much as well :(

ProteinshakesandAntonsAss · 09/07/2019 17:46

Callum came in. Him and Amber had no connection and he went home

Am I missing something?

I dont understand how people go in not understanding that producers will influence to do things.

fraxion · 09/07/2019 17:49

That article in the DM isn't the full story. Unfortunately it's not only LI contestants who have suffered mentally to the point they have ended their life. The Ringer full article

Sagradafamiliar · 09/07/2019 17:50

Savanna Darnell put up a vid on YouTube about her experience and the whole thing sounded shit tbf and she finally came home to find that she hasn't even been given any screen time.

TatianaLarina · 09/07/2019 17:50

I find Adam’s claim credible. I thought the producers had likely prepped Maura to play the maneater, and it’s similar.

It’s interesting that Alex Miller was badly affected. You can’t really can’t tell who will be impacted.

RainbowPanda · 09/07/2019 17:51

Oooh the LoveIsland USA Villa looks lush!!

Just researching how to watch it. I will report back!

butmaybe · 09/07/2019 18:07

employing sly manipulation and setting impossibly high expectations for their contestants—who have been hand-picked according to traits that may make them more susceptible to producers’ maneuvering.

All the ways they keep the contestants disorientated are harsh too.
They seem very disposable - it's no wonder many find it hard.

Thump · 09/07/2019 18:09

On the Amy/mental health topic, I am diagnosed with EUPD and behave a lot like her - I fall hard and fast and take rejection very badly. I see a lot of me in her behaviour. I too can manage to hold down pretty senior PA roles, but can get unhinged quite easily! To most people I come across as normal - put me under a microscope and you'll see behind the scenes. I'm very much a chameleon with varying personas for friends/work colleagues/acquaintances/family. It's something that would stick out to people if I was put in a fish bowl, but nobody would pick up on in work for e.g.

Oh and newbie quiff guy looks Irish for some reason!

Thump · 09/07/2019 18:11

But it's not the producers who axe them - it's either the viewers or the contestants themselves - so threatening to axe them doesn't add up - maybe it's a case of them giving less exposure?
Might explain Maura being a bit full on though!

Thump · 09/07/2019 18:14

I was once interviewed for a role which involved scanning all media for mention of for e.g. Tony Blair (it was that long ago lol). You then compile a report on all media coverage of said individual/company/institution.

I presume LI producers have a team inhouse who do this or employ a company to do it for them. I think they guage media coverage and play to the favourites.

butmaybe · 09/07/2019 18:17

I think the producers definitely have the power to get them axed. The editing - what they do, or don't air, 'twists' like the tweet game before Casa Amour and then the flexibility of the rules.

carmenbea · 09/07/2019 18:21

The producers decide who they want to go as they decide out of the how many bottom couples they are how they go and who decides. They clearly set it up so that Joe would be axed earlier this series and they did it last year everyone wanted Megan out but everytime the bottom vote was her they manipulated it to their advantage

GoldenGumballs · 09/07/2019 18:21

I think this type of show won’t last much longer. The whole premise is people voting favourites. There’s going to be ‘bad’ & ‘good’ depending on edit and the fallout on social media is when the rot sets in. Think in future it will be prepped and scripted actors ( halfway there now) to minimise risk of breaking people.

butmaybe · 09/07/2019 18:22

That article has some really thought provoking parts:

Sophie Grandon “In an instant, I was catapulted from everyday life into the limelight. We became public property overnight, and everyone had an opinion, both good and bad. I started to believe what these people were saying about me was true.”

Andersson: “I got my phone back when I left the villa, and it was overwhelming,”

People should think how they judge contestants online.

We blur the boundaries of real people and drama. So, in the same way that you might have a go at a character in one of the soap operas, you end up having a go at someone in reality TV. It’s one of the most disturbing things about being a celebrity now. Viewers either want to idolize them or knock them down.

it’s no secret that producers do encourage stars to act in certain ways and then cut the footage to create juicy story lines.

PrincessPeachy23 · 09/07/2019 18:23

Has it actually been confirmed for sure that Amy has left?
