I've just caught up with episode 3 and have a random question.

Whilst being a bit distracted by all the backlighting I was wondering about Serena-Joy's mother.

Anyone know why she would have such a high status? She was in black (I think I was finding colours difficult with the backlight!!) so assume symbolises widowed. But why would a woman remain at such a status if the man was dead. It was all his property and wealth. In fact do we know what happens to widows (I've a vague recall there was something about this - or it might be a disgraced commander's wife I'm recalling.)

Oh and what's Commander Laurence up to. He's so as capricious as Aunt Lydia I can't figure his convictions out just like her!!!

Was away so finally caught up. That episode was very disturbing the poor handmaids. Really frustrating with Canada using nicole to negotiate with Gilead doesn't say much for the rest of the world Confused and what's going on with nick I am so disappointed in him. Really not sure where all this will go but if the Waterford manage to get nicole back despite not being genetically linked to her and with Canada knowing about the atrocities in Gilead and their treatment of women I will no longer be convinced canada is the safe haven we were led to believe Sad

beanaseireann yeah agree their meeting in the garden was pretty ridiculous and unlikely

I guess in some ways it is like the western world ignoring all the human rights violations in Saudi Arabia for oil

Who's still watching?

Yesterday's was good. What does that man want Serena for? I can't recall!!! Also couldn't work out if she set it up.

(Plus I think I missed where they were going, why they were going and why they drove themselves.)
