Defenbaker I suspect you are spot on with those observations.

Poor Madonna. Wouldn’t it have been fantastic to see her mature into a ballsy older woman who’s comfortable in her skin, like Diana Ross or Barbra Streisand or Debbie Harry?

Instead, after all those years of seeming to be all about empowerment and confidence, her fragility and insecurity are the most noticeable things about her, from my point of view.

Defenbaker · 15/06/2019 00:07

@Pinkarsedfly - yes, she looked quite desperate. Like she has to make this latest album a success, and is trying to somehow turn back the ravages of time to do it. With some adjustments to the costume she might have succeeded, to a point, but her poor decisions showed up her weak points.

Hell, yeah!

Just caught up, think she was OK, nervous oddly, that's it, Graham was also nervous and apologised that Ian McKellen came after Madonna, bit awkward

I don't know if her behaviour was age-related. Maybe that's just the way she is? Just because she's had a mega singing career doesn't mean she has to be an engaging conversationalist. She seemed very uncomfortable to me (and not just physically) and unsure of how to behave. I think some of her comments were her trying to fit in, be ironic etc - but they just fell wide of the mark.

And of course most guests would contrast unfavourably to the adorable, totally at ease, entertaining, self-deprecating and charming Sir Ian.

Why she would force herself into that ridiculous corset though is beyond me.
