I’ve just watched the first 30 mins and I don’t think I can watch on. My heart is heavy and I feel sick.

I can’t believe this is based on a true story. I’ve read little snippets about it here and there and knew of the story but didn’t comprehend the brutality of it.

Those poor poor boys. 😢😢😢

If you found that interesting (for want of a better word) watch The Staircase. You will become completely obsessed.

nordstrom · 06/08/2019 21:05

I watched the first episode the other week and decided I didn't think I could stomach the rest. I was too enraged and upset.

areyoubeingserviced · 06/08/2019 21:12

Nordstrom- I watched the first three episodes, but just couldn’t watch the one with Korey. I have a child of that age and I just can’t imagine my child having to face that.
The worst thing is that even though Korey was sent to an adult prison, the fact that he went to an adult prison was where he encountered the real rapist.
I still can’t get my head around the fact that there wasn’t any evidence. No bloodstains, footprints , absolutely nothing.
They stitched these young men up and in doing allowed Reyes to rape and murder another woman.

I watched them all Last week
Absolutely unbelievable

I've read a lot about it this week and Its truly outrageous it ever happened to those boys and that the police investigation found the police were absolutely faultless in their investigations and conduct

I've just seen the Oprah special on Netflix going to watch that too asap

Longestlurkerintheworld · 06/08/2019 21:21

A previous poster mentioned another situation of a 16 year old being sent to Rikers island and spending an unimaginable amount of time in solitary... his name was Kaleif Browder and Netflix have a documentary covering his harrowing story which is worth a watch. It's called the Kaleif Browder story: Time ( I think and I hope I have spelt his name correct).

Both programmes highlight just how wrong Americas justice system can get it and Kaleifs story just shows things sadly arnt changing quick enough Angry

Justneedaflippingtemporaryname · 07/08/2019 22:33

I want to watch but I'm scared to. I thought Making A Murderer was bad- this sounds horrendous! Why do people think America is so great? To me they're a third world country in all but army might.

Watched this in one go at the weekend.

Absolutely heartbreaking. Feels odd to say it’s a brilliant series - the acting is outstanding!
It’s crazy to think it’s a true story.

I’ve been recommending it to everyone who will listen to me.

Thanks for the other Netflix suggestions have added them to the list

pontiouspilates · 15/08/2019 19:06

I binged this over a weekend and watched the Oprah interview afterwards. I cant stop thinking about those men and how this has changed their lives. Superb acting from the cast. I've been telling everyone to watch it.

Roussette · 15/08/2019 20:59

I've just watched this and could weep come the last part.

It's just so disgusting that the Detective Farstein won't concede she was wrong when every single bit of evidence proved that. It's just appalling and has anything changed?

There are many cases where white men performing rape get off with a slap on the wrist (Brock Turner... look it up..) and a person of colour who stole something is in for 20 years.

I despair I really do

MissB83 · 29/08/2019 21:44

I've just watched the first episode of this and it's very powerful viewing. Feels even more difficult as the mother of a mixed race son. The thing that keeps bugging my mind is how none of the police or prosecutors cared how bent they all were, and that while they were messing around pinning it on these kids they must have realised there was a very dangerous rapist walking around! Didn't they care?!

Roussette · 30/08/2019 22:31

I know... it's really shocking isn't it...

MissB83 · 02/09/2019 09:30

Gosh I just watched the last episode and it was so awful! Just inhuman. They broke that young man. I can't imagine my own son being in that kind of place with such treatment. You wouldn't treat an animal like that.
The only upside to this terrible story would be if this amazing drama prompted some discussion about the not fit for purpose US justice and prison system.
Can you even imagine if there had been the death penalty in this case?!
