I've never heard of him either Grin

I hate it when people ask patronising rhetorical questions like whether an umpire, who I'm sure Djok knew fine well had never been a professional player, has ever played tennis Hmm What has that got to do with the price of eggs anyway?

I know they all have their spats with umpires but I can't imagine Roger, Rafa etc saying something like that. (Correct me if I'm wrong Grin)

Private they have had their moments, Roger and Rafa, certainly.
Djok has had more than them, though, definitely.

And he doesn't get, that it's his attitude that is the reason he is not as well liked. Respect has to be earned- and both Fed and Rafa have earned that. A player like Delpo- is one of the most like men on tour, by players, spectators and officials alike.

He gets frustrated because he thinks just winning makes him special, and deserves automatic love and respect. It's not how it works.

I was shouted at on here for being mean to Serena- because hey, she's won 23 slams, you know. Doesn't mean she's not obnoxious though, does it? Margaret Court won 24- and look how she turned out.

It's why he imploded after he won the RG in 2016. He did it- the grand slam. And every one around him went 'meh'.

It messed with his head.

kazzaD66 · 08/06/2019 19:59

magi Djok the Cock etc Grin
Good to have you back Grin

Evans in the final at Surbiton tomorrow. I know he's not everyone's favourite but.......Grin

So, two questions - who do you want to win tomorrow? And who is going to win tomorrow? I'm guessing the answer is one and the same Grin

Raahh · 08/06/2019 20:01

kazza Grin you do persist with the Evans love Grin

I can't join you in it. I doubt Jamie Murray would either Grin

Raahh · 08/06/2019 20:01

And in answer to your question .....

erm....

I might have to get back to you . Wink

Raahh · 08/06/2019 20:03

(It's a shame though - because 20-odd years ago, a player like Thiem would be on his way to maybe his 2/3rd title by now- because Rafa would have already retired).

PrivateIsles · 08/06/2019 20:04

kazza I predict an Evans win in Surbiton Wink

Raahh I know, I'm sorry! But I do like the way he plays and I also admire him from coming from a fairly humble background and making it in what can be a fairly entitled sport in this country. I know he's been a complete dick but so have a lot of people. And Jamie can be a bit of an arse at times aswell Grin

PrivateIsles · 08/06/2019 20:10

Meanwhile in Paris... Well I have to go with Rafa because you'd be mad not to. But if Thiem can get the first set (sorry, I know that's the kind of thing commentators always say) I think it could be interesting... But even if he does, I don't really see him winning it tbh.

I agree though Raahh, in the old days, Thiem would probably have had a couple of RGs by now. I was looking at Boris Becker stats the other day (Grin no particular reason) and he was only 25 when he won his last slam, and I remember at the time he was thought of as at the end of his career, pretty much. I know he'd been around since he was v young, but still, it seems so weird to think of it.

Watching a bonkers segment on Eurosport just now - Mac's commissioner of tennis thing. He's just yelling in a hoarse voice about random stuff Hmm

There was a bit where he dressed as someone from Game of Thrones (I think) including a long black wig. He looked like Alan Rickman playing Snape. It was totally weird Grin

Raahh · 08/06/2019 20:41

Private has Mac mentioned a roof yet?

It's why this whole year has happened. Mac , and his fixation on a sodding roof. It's been sunny in Paris forever.

They used to have a Sun King, ffs.

Bloody Mac

Grin
kazzaD66 · 08/06/2019 20:55

Raahh Grin

kazzaD66 · 08/06/2019 20:56

And I love Alan Rickman Sad

Raahh · 08/06/2019 21:04

I was looking at some stats earlier.
Mac won most of his tournaments on carpet.

He made one RG final.

It's safe to say, he does not really have much of an interest in clay Grin. At least Jim C actually could play on it.

Raahh · 08/06/2019 21:05

I loved Alan Rickman too.Sad Brilliant actor.

It was a horrible time when he died- so many people did, at the same .

PrivateIsles · 08/06/2019 21:26

I love Alan as well. When I say Mac looked like him, he looked like someone dressed as Snape at a fancy dress party, not really like Alan himself.

Carpet - huh. No wonder he's so disparaging about clay!

Yes, they do did Raahh . In the space of about a fortnight, there was Alan Rickman, Terry Wogan and David Bowie, plus a couple of others I can't think of right now. From January to April of that year (was it 2017 or as long as 2016?) about 8 famous people died and I think everyone was thinking....please, no more!

Raahh · 08/06/2019 21:47

It was very sad, kazza-It was an odd feeling, and many were the same age (69- same age as my dad at the time ) .

I miss a lot of them- daft when they are celebs I've never met.

I think Terry Wogan was one that really effected me.
Sometimes, it doesn't matter whether you know someone, they can really affect you . I still really miss Terry , which sounds a bit daft.

It's like when Gerry Williams died (the same year), it was barely mentioned - shame on you, BBC. He was(a bit of an annoying voice) but a voice of the tennis , for years. And it really hardly got a mention. And I waited for it.

If I was a Twitterer, I'd have done something.

kazzaD66 · 08/06/2019 21:53

I did love Terry Wogan at breakfast. The Janet and John stories were to die for Grin I don't know how he got through reading them sometimes (well, sometimes he didn't!) Brilliant Grin

Boggy Marsh and Deadlicoat - fabulous Grin

PrivateIsles · 08/06/2019 22:17

Grin I liked Wogan as well. He just seemed to be one of those people who would go on forever.

Just flipping through tv channels and happened upon An Audience with Billy Connelly, must be 20 or 30 years old, and spotted Wincey Willis in the "celebrity" audience - as she was mentioned the other day Grin

PrivateIsles · 08/06/2019 23:30

Grin blast from the past!

We're just watching The Fugitive for about the 100th time - great film though.

So proud of Our Ash. Heartening that Australia can still produce players who have humility and manners.

JaneJeffer · 09/06/2019 09:39

There are a few mannerly Aussies Daisy it's just that the unmannerly ones get the most attention unfortunately Grin

Fizzywinegum · 09/06/2019 09:48

Didn’t get to see the women’s match but pleased that it was won by a nice person - well done Barty - and that her opponent was gracious in defeat.

Back home now and back to reality Sad. At least the house is still standing (teenage DSs left home alone, luckily the eldest is quite sensible)

At least I’ll be able to watch the match later on a big screen instead of the iPad. I’m hoping that Thiem will make it a bit of a competition but with Rafa as the winner.

I think Thiem was a bit daunted by being in the final last year but will have got over that a bit now. Just glad it’s not Djok in the final.
