It's here.

Eight seasons of love, hate, family, battles, history, mystery, myth and legend.

After laying waste to Kings' Landing, what next for Daenerys? Does destiny feel good when you kill thousands of innocents to reach it?

I will really miss these characters and their stories. Epic, must-watch television is rare. Will we ever see its like again?

And now our watch is ended.

dragons can't/won't kill a Targ?

Plenty of Targs have died by other Targs in dragon battles. However, Jon had obviously ‘bonded’ with Drogon who recognised his intentions.

Dragon/rider bonds haven’t been explored really in the show.

Did Sam not say goodbye to Jon (again) that seems a bit duff... probably there wasn't time in the episode but I don't think he would have just stuck his Meistersinger chain on and thought stuff you Jon Snow, your off the the wall so forget you...

GabrielleNelson · 20/05/2019 09:46

One of the things I liked about the ending was that it took us back to the kind of scenes we had a lot of early on, before the realm was consumed by civil war. There were lots of scenes in the Small Council but they were always tense affairs because of all the treachery going on. Varys, Littlefinger, Maester Pycelle, Tywin, Jaime, Cersei, Tyrion, poor Ned (massively out of his depth), Joffrey (boo), we saw them all there, and only Tyrion survived to return to the council. It was lovely to see one final gathering of all the most reasonable, decent people who've survived, plus Bronn, the ultimate survivor, who isn't decent but is good at getting things done, and will get on with getting things done, as long as whoever instructs him makes sure Bronn is well paid in return.

Re “what was the point of Jon dying, or him being revealed as a Targaryen”

My take on it is he needed to be killed in one way to teach him a lesson that not everyone is as trusting and kind hearted as him. On a practical level, by “dying” he was released from his NW oath. After he hung Ollie and the other traitors he walked away saying “now my watch has ended”. NW is for life, and deserters are beheaded. By dying he effectively was able to leave and fulfil his destiny.

His Targaryen heritage was instrumental in Dany’s downfall. Her arrogance was built on her being the true heir. Finding out that she wasn’t, and that the true heir was far more well liked and respected than she was, was the beginning of her undoing.

Jaime and Cersei were incredibly clean and uncrushed/unbloodied looking for two people squashed to death by falling masonry

And incredibly close to the top of the rubble too. Hmm

BeyondOverTheMoon · 20/05/2019 09:48

I was a bit annoyed that there was no more face swapping by Arya.

GabrielleNelson · 20/05/2019 09:48

I think the Dothraki were probably 'persuaded' by the Unsullied and the Northmen to get back on the boats and go back to Essos.

TheLastNigel · 20/05/2019 09:48

Yes I really liked the small council but st the end too-they would ah w had to crack on with the new set up and get back to just living normal life and that illustrated it well...

somewh3reanywhere · 20/05/2019 09:48

I was hoping for baby dragons.

Enjoyed the ending though, more than I thought I would, although King Bran was a bit eh. Glad all the Starks (and Davos!) survived.

GabrielleNelson · 20/05/2019 09:49

Yes, I was hoping Arya would use her assassin's and face swapping skills a lot in this series. She'll probably find them useful where she's going. I'd have loved to see Nymeria again too.

MoominMantra · 20/05/2019 09:49

'So basically Jon snows parentage means nothing and him dying seems to have meant nothing.'

I think his parentage is relevant because as a Targaryen who loves Dany, he's the only one who can 'acceptably' assassinate her.

Lweji · 20/05/2019 09:49

And the little dig by Tyrion towards Sansa regarding evil heirs. She had to cope with at least two.

Loved how she told her uncle to sit. Woman power.

Persimmonn · 20/05/2019 09:50

Tyrion lifting those “heavy” bricks that killed his brother and sister with one tiny hand Hmm.

GabrielleNelson · 20/05/2019 09:52

That little cameo with Edmure was terrific. I assumed he'd be so busy being Prince Philip that we wouldn't see him again. I also liked the detail that loathsome Robyn Arryn is now a teenager but very much under the thumb of Lord Whatsisname from the Vale (Rupert Vansittart). Sound arrangement.

TheLastNigel · 20/05/2019 09:57

I didn't even twig that it was Robyn Arryn until I saw a meme on twitter about his glow up being a great advert for breastfeeding 😂
I can never see lord whatshisname as anyone other than the person he was in four weddings, who fancies andie mcDowell and refers to her as a 'damn fine filly'Grin

TheLastNigel · 20/05/2019 09:58

And I can't see Edmure not as the characters he plays in Outlander... though I did enjoy his bit-and Sansa's sass telling him to sit.

BeyondOverTheMoon · 20/05/2019 10:02

I knew I knew Edmure from something else!!!

Why would the wildlings go back beyond the wall? Its cold and snowy! Couldn't they have just lived in the North? Do we need the wall now?

TakenForSlanted · 20/05/2019 10:20

Why would the wildlings go back beyond the wall? Its cold and snowy! Couldn't they have just lived in the North? Do we need the wall now

Well, a lot of them were beyond the wall to begin with because they wouldn't bend the kneww to Westerosi kings, so I guess that makes sense.

Though, really, Sansa I'd have as my bigboss queen any day. Omniscient "I don't care": not do much!

SweetSummerchild · 20/05/2019 10:22

Why would the wildlings go back beyond the wall?

Tormund said in episode 4 that the wildlings need ‘space to roam’. It’s a bit contrived as The North is very sparsely populated to begin with. I guess they are probably free to come and go as they please.

They came south because of the winter and the white walkers and now they are both gone they can go ‘home’.

SweetSummerchild · 20/05/2019 10:24

TakenForSlanted yes, I’d rather live in the North under Sansa than in the six kingdoms with Bronn as chancellor of the exchequer.

IHeartArya · 20/05/2019 10:31

Just finished it. I loved Sansa being Queen & Arya going off exploring. Will read the thread later & comment properly when I’ve watched again.

VampireSlayer19 · 20/05/2019 10:36

How come Sam was allowed to leave and have children?

SweetSummerchild · 20/05/2019 10:36

So, Lena and Nikolai earned $1 million each for lying with their eyes closed.

Bloody hell - that’s easy money!

frugalkitty · 20/05/2019 10:38

Well I liked it. I was just in the middle of telling my DH what a sap Jon Snow is when he killed Dany.

Best bits for me were Brienne writing in Jamie's story, and Jon being reunited with Ghost at the end.
