Rather liked the idea of a middle class woman trying to find her feet and get her life back after prison. Finding her parents a but annoying already though.

Self-defence would be an absolute defence to the charge if it was believed. The fact that she was convicted indicates that the jury didn't accept it, so it couldn't be used to mitigate sentence.
