Apologies if there is a there is a thread but I looked and couldn't see one.
I missed the show last week as I was at the GN. Recorded it. Thought the GB was OK but not all the raving...
Looking forward to seeing Susan Boyle tonight... ♥

hollowvictory yes, you're right. I didn't really word it very well, but I was a bit woozy after taking some knock out strong antihistamines. I just was trying to say that if that's what they choose to do then thats their prerogative but I just didn't get why it was thought to be empowering by Amanda and Aleisha. Not even sure I'm making sense now either Confused

There really is not a stand out amazing act this year, is there?

On the subject of Colin... he's sweet; it's cute. But I am getting fed up of the Simon Cowell-led WW2 mythologisation and nostalgia.

On Twitter, I kept reading stuff like ' this man made our country what it is'; 'people like Colin are what Britain is all about' etc. The staging of the Chelsea Pensioner outfit , and the implied poppies, wartime music all contribute to this of course.

Happy to be corrected but Colin is 89. He was a youngster during WW2. Of course, he has seen military service, otherwise he wouldn't be a CP. But he didn't fight off the Nazis single handed and he isn't emblematic of some lost Golden Age when Britain was Great. I am not keen on the narrative.

I am aware that sounds cynical but it borders on jingoism and I am not keen. Colin I like perfectly well. But it seems now you can wheel out anyone for a bit of WW2 nostalgia and the public laps it up. is there nothing that has happened since that defines us? I doubt other European countries wheel out 1940s nostalgia every time they have a talent show so what fills that void? A bit of Cold War marching? An 80s style number, celebrating the fall of the Berlin Wall ? (actually, that sounds quite cool!)

For the poster who asked about tickets-i was at the Apollo on Monday and there was a massive queue in the morning, but by the time we arrived it had all gone, and that was about 2pm. So earlier the better. They do let people in after the show has started if some haven't turned up, as they were ushering people in at least for the first 2 acts, so stand by might still get in after it has started.

OytheBumbler · 30/05/2019 17:16

I agree about Colin. I mean fair play to the old fella for having a go but he hasn't even got a great voice.

It's the same with the police dogs. Surely they should all go on the Pride of Britain award show rather than an entertainment show.

I hate being emotionally manipulated. Angry

itswinetime · 30/05/2019 17:25

Colin said he was born in 1930 and joined the army at 15 which would have been 1945 so technically he could of been in ww2 depending on exactly when he joined.

But yes I agree it's all designed to tug on the heartstrings! It was like the choir last year that played war photos while they sang! I don't get all the love for it personally.

Piggywaspushed · 30/05/2019 17:44

I checked and Colin was in Korea. Admirable in itself but not so useful for the stage dresser of BGT.

Hollowvictory · 30/05/2019 17:49

I prefer Colin to the pant-prancers.

Loved david Walliams 'if you like seeing women come out of boxes this is the act for you'

GoFiguire · 30/05/2019 18:19

Did Simon Cowell vote Leave do you think?

Piggywaspushed · 30/05/2019 18:58

Almost certainly.

BumandChips · 30/05/2019 19:37

Isn’t this the same as their audition.

cricketmum84 · 30/05/2019 19:49

What the actual fuck.

howwudufeel · 30/05/2019 19:49

What am I watching?

applepineapple · 30/05/2019 19:49

God this woman is bonkers!

BumandChips · 30/05/2019 19:49

I don’t understand.

Like, really don’t understand.

SunshineCake · 30/05/2019 19:50

What rubbish

TheGardenFairy · 30/05/2019 19:52

I'm sorry I switched on now. Missed the first act. WTF is going on with the lady and a harp?? Off to get a bottle of wine to help me see what the judges are seeing 😱

OldUnit · 30/05/2019 19:52

They. Any show harp core porn before watershed! Confused

applepineapple · 30/05/2019 19:52

I don't even think Ursula liked doing it 🤣

Balloondog · 30/05/2019 19:54

Thought the icon Kid's were great - good tunes and super tight dance routine but what on earth was the harp nonsense all about? She didn't even play it properly and I think calling it 'bonkers' was kind Confused

FlorenceKettle · 30/05/2019 19:56

Well that certainly had my full attention Confused

WellErrr · 30/05/2019 20:05

Are the judges watching the same acts?

WellErrr · 30/05/2019 20:07

Harp lady 😱

WellErrr · 30/05/2019 20:08

(Watching slightly delayed here)

applepineapple · 30/05/2019 20:12

The magician act was so long, lost interest half way through

TheGardenFairy · 30/05/2019 20:12

When my kids were small they loved Mr Tumble. I couldn't wait for them to grow our of that phase. This guy is the reborn Mr Tumble.... enough said!

And the judges all stood! 😱 Is this modern "entertainment"?? Oh joy! ....
