Is a Nurse Practitioner also known as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner?

When I last went to my surgery I saw an ANP But I would have preferred to see my GP.

What's the difference?

No idea, but I like the Nurse Practitioner at our surgery and think it is a good idea.
