Seriously had been practising sooo hard.

Krishnan was amazing.

Greg was a twat.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/04/2019 08:50

I liked Nicola too but was transfixed by her smooth forehead, I found it quite distracting!

shumway · 03/04/2019 11:50

His sister died of cancer so it must be a cause close to his heart.

PinkieTuscadero · 03/04/2019 11:56

I thought it was sweet that everything he cooked was from his mum's handwritten recipe book. And I really liked the sound of that first cake he made, the one with the hazelnuts.

PloptheBarnOwl · 03/04/2019 21:29

Haven't watched it yet, but Greg Wise's sister died of cancer a couple of years ago. A friend of mine met Clare Wise when they were having chemo together. When Clare died, my friend posted a link to her blog, which Greg Wise took over writing, describing her last days, her death and funeral, before concluding it. He wrote so movingly. I would forgive him everything on Bake Off because I guess he is trying to do right by his sister.

TheNavigator · 03/04/2019 21:37

Greg Wise did come across as a smug try hard. I could imagine him scampering home to Emma to say 'I won star baker' - 'Lovely darling, I've got an Oscar Grin

SrSteveOskowski · 03/04/2019 21:53

I thought Greg was okay actually and I liked both Caroline and Nicola. Nicola had a great smile. I found Krishnan had a serious case of sour grapes to be honest and didn't like to see anyone doing better.

teacherspet · 04/04/2019 09:59

I'm sure he's a thoroughly lovely man, just came across as desperate to win. He would have got the same exposure for the cause whether he won or not.

SassyBadger · 04/04/2019 10:34

I liked Greg. He took it seriously. Caroline Flack on the other hand is so irritating!

Trekkingbeyond · 04/04/2019 10:47

I love Krishnan on Ch4 so was really disappointed in him when he blamed Sandy for his cake disintegrating when it clearly wasn't her fault at all.

Bowchicawowow · 04/04/2019 10:51

It was a brilliant episode. Greg trying his best to win and his little face before they made the announcement Grin Then there was Khrisnan who was hopeless. Caroline was hilarious and Nicola was as brilliant as ever. She’s never baked before and she did really well. I think Paul and Prue were desperate for her to win.

Bowchicawowow · 04/04/2019 10:52

And the moment Sandy and Khrisnan flipped the cake was tv gold.

SassyBadger · 04/04/2019 10:54

I didn't mind Krishnan either. I think he was being a bit tongue in cheek. And at least he wasn't doing that 'awww, shucks' thing that so many of them do. Plus his chocolate biscuits looked so tasty. As did Nicola's vanilla ones.

rightreckoner · 04/04/2019 11:01

Yes Greg came across as a plonker. Emma Thompson does too. Always virtue signalling then quietly backtracking when she realises she's backed the wrong horse (Roman Polanski for example). Too much self-regard, not enough critical thinking.

But Greg does get points for making an effort and I know he lost his sister to cancer so no doubt it was from the heart.

Caroline annoyed me by playing with her hair constantly. Nicola seemed lovely (love her face!) and Krishnan quite fun and bitchy in a good way.

rightreckoner · 04/04/2019 11:03

I think Sandi showed her true colours there also - tried to blame Krishnan for the cake disaster. To be fair it just didn't have enough structure to hold properly but her first reaction was to blame him. She was then missing from the next bit where they had to judge those cakes so I wondered if she was having a bit of a cry!

SassyBadger · 04/04/2019 11:11

Never had much of an opinion on Sandi until she joined GBBO but boy oh boy I now find her so annoying!

CutSomeRug · 04/04/2019 11:29

God, he’s so bloody smug and swotty. I agree that Krishnan thinks he’s a twat, he’s not very good at hiding it.

CutSomeRug · 04/04/2019 11:35

I agree that Nicola was lovely, sometimes the Olympians can be a bit one dimensional but she has charisma and was engaging.

Nicola and Krishnan were definitely my favourite ‘personalities’ on this one.

I agree that Sandi was out of order with the sponge flip disaster. She should’ve owned her part in it and apologised to him. Maybe she did and it was edited out? I hope so, if not it was crappy of her. Mel and Sue used to accidentally sabotage people’s bakes (eating fundamental parts of them or ingredients, picking them up and breaking them etc) but they were always mortified and helped the baker to rectify it afterwards. They didn’t just wander off.

CutSomeRug · 04/04/2019 11:45

Recipe on the back of a script because “that’s the only paper we have in the house” [tinkly laugh]

Angry

ODFOD, Greg

iklboo · 07/04/2019 15:56

Loved Nicola. She's so bubbly and fun.

I'm sure it was editing but Caroline looked like she was spending more time 'tiitivating' (nana's word) with her hair and lippy.

Greg was good but boring.

James Acaster is still my favourite.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 07/04/2019 16:01

Oh No. I will have to go and watch it now.
James Acaster was the best contestant ever.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 07/04/2019 16:02

Have you heard his food podcast @iklboo. Very funny, not really about food

iklboo · 07/04/2019 16:03

@DuckbilledSplatterPuff (love your name) No but I'll check them out, thanks. His biography is really funny too.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 07/04/2019 16:08

I couldn't watch Davina because DH's death from lung cancer is too raw still. I hated myself for skipping it but it was just too soon.

JustDanceAddict · 07/04/2019 18:14

I thought Sandi was out of order, I would’ve been annoyed too if I was Krishnan.
