Red I did the first lot of GCSEs, in 1988. I even did French. ( also did it for A Level , along with Russian).

Can't really remember any of it.

I was the 1988 first GCSEs class too Raahh - and I did French A level. Mostly forgotten.

Anne I felt a bit pushed into languages for 'A' level, I'm not sure it was really a good idea, in retrospect. Although I even did a year of Swedish at university. I was really crap at Swedish .

I can say 'I don't know' in a few languages .

I only did French - with History and English Lit Raahh, but I've been doing a bit of Spanish using Duolingo for the last couple of years and oddly it is making the French come back to me a bit.

I can't speak or read any other languages, I did German GCSE but can't remember any of it really (I could probably ask to get to the hospital or station !), We did french until GCSE, but we either played bingo or were having a sponsored silence I wish I had stuck at a language.

English Lit was my other A level, and my degree. At a Welsh university .

I don't regret that, but in the first year we had to do 2 additional subjects, and one of the girls I had just met (who I am still friends with, nearly 30 years on) persuaded me Swedish would be fun. It was really not fun. . The Santa Lucia festival (dressing in bed sheets , singing and drinking Swedish mulled wine) had it's moments, though. .

Well, I've missed a few days and a lot of chat (Meet here btw) so I'm off to watch today's episode. My chat contribution is that I too am old enough to have O levels and I have A level French which is largely forgotten- I struggle to help DD with her French and Spanish hw.

I have a French degree Not that you'd know it these days. I've since replaced it with made up words.
I'd stay with French Homme for the cheese and those buttery galettes de beurre biccies. Ooooooo yummo
