New Amsterdam- episode 9 - what's with the ashes?

In episode 9 (the one where Max saves the woman who got his sister's heart), I don't understand the end.

The woman's husband gives Max an urn of ashes at the end. It seems to be that these are his sister's ashes. But why would that woman have his sister's ashes? I'm totally confused...

It's the ashes of his sister's heart after she has had it replaced in the second transplant.
