That wasn't worth bribing DH to go up and see to DD for.
Am thoroughly disappointed in Russell t Davies!

That's a relief - the idea that RTD was using Dr Who as a vehicle for spreading the word was a bit off-putting. Esp. if it led him to create such a dreadful scene as the resurrection.

Killing the king so the king can be reborn is a pagan thing too, but the styling of the resurrection was undeniably messianic.

CatIsSleepy · 01/07/2007 12:08

was it just me, or was the bit near the end when Dr was regenerated reminiscent of Shrek? the bit with princess fiona transforming into her true self?
found it hard to take seriously after i'd thought of that...

BoingBoing · 01/07/2007 13:30

So is Martha definitely not back full time in the next series? Hurrah, as someone else said, she's great when she's not mooning over the Dr, apart from that it's all a bit tiresome.
Next series would be cool if it was an on-going battle between the Dr and the Master/Mistress. I read somewhere that RTD has taken a lot of inspiration from Buffy, so it's more than possible.

I also read that the actor who played Spike is going to be in the next series of Torchwood, which could actually persuade me to watch more than a couple of episodes of what was a criminally piss-poor programme. And even Anthony Head might be persuaded into doing it. Does anyone know if this is true?

AttilaTheMum · 01/07/2007 14:20

Apparently James Marsters is going to be in at least one episode of Torchwood - there's a link on the Dr Who Geeks thread.

btw boingboing - are you a baggies fan?

Fubsy · 01/07/2007 15:41

Another thought - maybe the Master swapped bodies before he "died" - hence goofy facial expressions, that was his bonkers wife.

A bit like the Body Thief by Anne Rice.

Peachy · 01/07/2007 16:07

Yes, Dh tells me that the MAster has a history of sopul transfer (he thinks it as the film but not sure) so we think that is what happened. And explains the shooting.

Boobsgonesouth · 01/07/2007 16:10

We all loved it....it did seem to get very complicated though at one point as wasn't quite sure that I completely got it....but really are wondering what we'll all do on a saturday evening as really enjoyed sitting down and watching it together...reminded me of when I was little !!!

BoingBoing · 01/07/2007 17:09

Excuse my ignorance Attila, but what's baggies?!

AttilaTheMum · 01/07/2007 18:00

Obviously you're not then, or you'd know.

Thre baggies are West Browmwich Albion football club & every time they score, the fans all jump up & down & shout 'boing boing'.....

There is a theory that there used to be a wooden floor in a stand that went boing boing when you jumped on it.

Housemum · 01/07/2007 18:25

Am I being a bit thick - won't anyone notice that the Prime Minister is dead? Or even if Harold Saxon doesn't win the election (I've forgotten what day this all started), where he has suddenly gone?

(Hmm - maybe that would be an alternative to the AIBU threads - the Am I being thick threads...)

edam · 01/07/2007 18:45

Unquietdad, dh has just pointed out to me that your name is a Dr Who reference. Am embarrassed to admit that had gone completely over my head... but I think it's v. good now someone has explained it to me in words of one syllable.

Steward · 01/07/2007 19:17

I don't normally watch Dr Who but saw some of lasr nights. Could anybody tell me where I have seen the actress who played the professor in? I think she was in Coronation Street but not sure. Also I have slao seen the actor who played the doctor at the hospital who got shot by the master in something else but connot think where. Maybe Spooks but not sure. Anybody help?

SaintGeorge · 01/07/2007 19:26

Steward · 01/07/2007 19:34

I thought the pseudo-relgious "Dr is Jesus" idea was a lame cop-out and didn't sit well with the Dr's usual raison d'etre.
I hated the section where the Master danced about to some music.
I thought Russell T was attempting a plot that was overblown and didn't play the series at its best - when it focusses in on something small as a way of commenting on somthing big.
And I'm glad Martha's history.
The kids enjoyed it though.

cylonbabe · 01/07/2007 23:00

i thought it was absolutley fab.
watched it twice last night.

slayerette · 02/07/2007 08:14

Sadly, Martha not only not leaving but she's going to be in Torchwood as well However, the Dr is getting a new companion in the next series; Martha will turn up about half way through but not as the official companion, iyswim.

Really looking forward to James Marsters in Torchwood - hope he and Capt Jack have a moment!

UnquietDad · 02/07/2007 09:08

Right - that RTD and Kate Winslet connection. Well worth checking out, as is its companion piece...

edam · 02/07/2007 16:21

Had no idea RTD worked on Why Don't You! How bizarre. Esp. as I first became aware of him after Queer as Folk...

(Did you notice my fawning over your name, btw, UD?)

2ManyPimms · 02/07/2007 20:42

Not impressed with the last two episodes. I must admit that I am happy to see Martha go - I couldn't warm to her once she went all "gooey" over the Dr. Rose's seat in the Tardis was still warm and already Martha had wet knickers.

I wonder who the'll bring in? I've not read the entire thread but I heard that they wanted the MD from the last episode to be The Doctor's companion. Unfortunately, the actor said that he didn't do long roles.

UnquietDad · 02/07/2007 21:08

edam - I don't blame you for not getting it at first, as it is fairly cryptic!

Yes, and he also worked with those paragons of subtle humour, the Chuckle Brothers. The more caustic might say we can still see their influence at work in his later writing...

Dark Season and Century Falls are really good, though - well worth checking out. If you have kids aged 7-12 they may well love them.

UnquietDad · 02/07/2007 21:08

I want it to be Sally Sparrow from "Blink"!

Ulysees · 02/07/2007 21:33

I didn't see Blink but ex has it taped, is it worth watching then?

Still haunted by how much I didn't like Saturday's episode, totally disappointed.

slayerette · 02/07/2007 21:35

You MUST watch Blink - fabulous and very creepy.
