Just that really
I have it all recorded, not sure it's my type of thing

Can you describe it?

OP posts:
cowfacemonkey · 04/01/2019 12:30

Addictive but grotesquely violent

pepperjack · 04/01/2019 12:31

Oh
That's done it then
I'm out

I didn’t find it that violent really. Just incredibly dull. Everyone shags everyone, lots of swords flying about and weird white zombie things. I couldn’t get emotionally attached enough to any of the characters to care what happened to them!

But I’m in the minority.... most people love it!

CrazyOldBagLady · 04/01/2019 12:37

It's set in a medieval, feudal sort of setting, so there is fighting and violence. I don't think there is any gore or violence for the sake of it, if you know what I mean.

The cast and characters are excellent, as is the storyline. Most characters aren't typical goodie or baddie, they are multidimensional and even the likeable ones have flaws.

There's a lot of excitement and intrigue in the story lines and you never know what's going to happen.

There's even a lot of humour in the script writing, it's definitely not all just about gore and tits. It's really very good.

Theknacktoflying · 04/01/2019 12:38

The dragons came out and my finger found the delete button ....
gore, war and bore ...

cowfacemonkey · 04/01/2019 12:38

I would say horses heads being chopped off, throats being constantly slit, babies being murdered is quite violent (I nearly stopped watching after the baby culling)

cowfacemonkey · 04/01/2019 12:40

I have to admit the dragons and their mother are a bore fest I care not a jot about that aspect of the storyline

Omgineedanamechange · 04/01/2019 12:42

The first few seasons are chock full of sex/nudity for the sake of it, and some pretty gruesome violence. In later seasons they calm it right down, no need to shock now they have the viewing figures I guess. The intrigue and plot twists are brilliant though. I love it, can’t wait for season 8.

Santaisfastasleepatlast · 04/01/2019 12:45

John. Snow

Jamie Lannister

FelicisWolf · 04/01/2019 12:49

I wouldn't call it grotesquely violent. It's not like it's a slasher horror! It has some violence, yes, and it has some sex, yes. But the plot and storylines are so much more than that - all the characters are so multi-dimensional and fascinating. Why don't you watch the first two episodes and see whether you want to carry on? (Never give up on a series after only watching the pilot episode!)

Very true

I never understood the appeal - and I've tried a couple of times. My dh wouldn't watch beyond Denaerys' sex scenes in number 1 and 2. The only good thing is the chap who plays the dwarf

ginghamstarfish · 04/01/2019 16:24

I haven't watched it but remember one of the actors involved summing it up as 'tits and dragons' which I found quite amusing ...

Room101isWhereIUsedtoLive · 04/01/2019 16:27

Because Samuel L Jackson says so:

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/01/2019 16:29

The theme tune is the best bit (I make DH play it and not fast-forward so I can pretend I'm playing the cello Blush )

It's a warning to all Actor Horses . If your agent offers you a part in a "Long Running Adventure Series" make sure its not GoT or The Walking Dead.

LifeBeginsNow · 04/01/2019 16:51

Lots of sex (to begin with at least). Loads of characters with plots that eventually connect and are designed to shock. Not too gory I wouldn't say, just what you'd expect from the odd battle scene.

I put it off for ages because I didn't think I'd like it but then got to binge watch. I'd say watch 2 episodes and you'll soon know.

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 04/01/2019 16:54

Meh.

It’s really not that great.

PuppyMonkey · 04/01/2019 16:56

Why have you recorded it if you don’t know anything about it? Grin

PuppyMonkey · 04/01/2019 16:57

Also, it’s Jon Snow.

You lot know nothing.Grin

ShirleyPhallus · 04/01/2019 17:01

I started watching it over Christmas and while it’s very easy, quite addictive watching, the level of violence and misogyny is pretty vile. The idea that it’s so accepted as mainstream TV when there is so much murder, rape, incest etc is pretty disgusting

Some of the plot lines are utter dullsville

I don’t care at all about Brann Stark. Jon Snow isn’t that fit or interesting and Ygritte is incredibly irritating.

Tyrion and Arya are the best storylines in it.

So an easy watch, but don’t binge watch like I did and end up dreaming about it

Santaisfastasleepatlast · 04/01/2019 17:01

See that's what he does - makes you lose the ability to spell. ...

Santaisfastasleepatlast · 04/01/2019 17:01

And go absolutely weak at the knees....

pepperjack · 04/01/2019 20:24

Puppy, it's being replayed from the start and I started recording it and now have about 5 series, must have been about 4 a day I think!
I always meant to watch it, but had other things to watch. But now it's on my tv, I wondered if I should delete it, it's taking up a lot of space, or actually watch it!
I vaguely knew it was some medieval fantasy thing.

costacoffeecup · 05/01/2019 08:45

Seriously, watch it. I can't really take violence and don't watch violent films etc (nothing past a 12 really!) But GOT is addictive and I don't mind the violent parts as they're part of the story. In the first few series you get really invested in the characters and it turns everything on its head so it doesn't turn out how you expect, you will be shocked and you will cry! I think it's the only series I've seen where I've really cared about some of the characters and actually feared for them. Some of the battle scenes are really the best tv I've ever seen. Its very clever. The music is very good too and really works with heightening the foreboding. It's only the last series that I've started to feel slightly less invested. I feel very jealous that you've not seen it yet!
