Joe is cishet white male feminist "allies" personified.
People like him because in comparison to Ron for example, he doesn't seem as bad because he's not outwardly nasty and aggressive like Ron is. At least with Ron you can see he's a nasty piece of work immediately, and avoid like the plague. Joe? He's charming and kind in lots of ways, which is why he's more dangerous because he can suck you back in over and over. Women put up with his behaviours because he's nice a lot of the time and they can sweep the creepy parts under a rug. He's attentive, does nice things, but behind all of that he is a horrible predator.
Then there's the fact that Beck is a disaster, so that also makes folks think Joe isn't that bad. She cheated, she lies and hides things. That makes people think she's asking for some of Joe's behaviours, even though she's really not, because regardless of her negative behaviours, she doesn't deserve to be treated the way Joe treats her. It's clever and manipulative. People might say oh, she's just as bad in other ways! Except she isn't because she's not a mentally unstable stalking murderer. Her being a person of questionable morals does not mean she's even CLOSE to being as bad as Joe.
It was refreshing to see that none of the main characters in the series were 'good guys.' Peach was UTTERLY VILE. Beck really, really got on my nerves eventually, but i don't believe she's actually dead.
Fairly sure Joe put Mooney in his current unwell position too. I don't believe he had a stroke naturally.
