21 kids and counting

Just watching the latest episode - how on earth do they afford to run that household? iPhones for the kids, holidays to Spain for 20 people, a new kitchen.

There is no way a bakery would generate that much money. Would channel 4 really pay that well for their participation in the programme?

The tide does seem to be turning against them. I wonder if Noel has ever been interviewed by the police, a lot of comments in different areas calling for it.

PollyFlinderz · 04/01/2019 10:55

Bluebell, the family are Middle Eastern and yes, educational aspirations are extremely high.

PollyFlinderz · 04/01/2019 10:58

One thing that’s struck me again is the lack of vegetables or fruit for the children despite mention of apples.

My eldest granddaughter is 13. I can’t get my head around a pregnant 13 year old.

It was so depressing to watch.

I'm an only child with my DM
DF has kids (4 Dsis) from a previous and current relationship but i could imagine coming from a family of 7 never mind twenty bastard one!

potatoscone · 04/01/2019 11:34

Hubanmao

Absolutely bang on.

It's just all so depressing Sad

potatoscone · 04/01/2019 11:36

The part where Noel was sticking down the wallpaper in the bathroom was quite telling.

There was no 'sorry daddy's busy can you use the other loo'

It was 'no, no, you are not using this toilet, go use the other one, and take Hallie with you'

Spoke volumes.

shpoot · 04/01/2019 11:42

What did that tell you @potatoscone? Misses point Confused

ReggieKrayDoYouKnowMyName · 04/01/2019 12:04

I thought it was sad when the dad didn’t know anyone’s birthdays!

potatoscone · 04/01/2019 12:09

shpoot

Really? Even when it's pointed out to you?

My god.

bluebellpillow · 04/01/2019 12:19

Did you notice when the paella was set on the table and two of the boys (who are primary school age) started sobbing uncontrollably and Noel said in an amused way something about the kids not liking to try different things? It made me wonder if they have ASD or some type of developmental/behavioural issue as that reaction was quite extreme (but the parents found it funny)

potatoscone · 04/01/2019 12:21

bluebell

That was awful. They knew Casper (?) was going to get upset and deliberately filmed it and laughed at him.

Horrendous parenting. Not remotely funny.

Schmoobarb · 04/01/2019 12:28

What's not creepy about getting someone pregnant at 13 and then subsequently keeping them pregnant in a controlling relationship for the rest of their adult life whilst not meeting the emotional needs of your 20+ children by not letting them have any privacy, space or individual nurturing?

This!

Hubanmao · 04/01/2019 12:28

Yes, the parents sense of humour is really childish- that came across a number of times. The way they joked about not letting boys in the girls’ rooms seemed like a way of trying to laugh off the fact that he knocked Sue up when she was 13. It was all glossed over in a joky ‘no way is that happening hahaha’ rather than a sensible adult/ young person discussion about boundaries and what’s sensible behaviour.

But I guess that’s them all over... minimising the fact that Noel was having sex with a minor, glossing over the fact that their kids are being dragged up in a institutional type environment, kidding themselves that the whole family are really happy with how things are and that it’s totally normal for older kids to have no aspirations.

I actually feel a bit grubby for having watched it now. It really hit me after that none of those kids have any choice or give permission to be paraded in front of the cameras like that. I guess the very eldest are making a choice but most of them just have it foisted on them.

Ihadacrushoncoreyhaim · 04/01/2019 12:28

Going to different countries can be very stressful and anxiety inducing as it is and your not eating your usual comfort foods. horrible for them to do that

Schmoobarb · 04/01/2019 12:29

The only thing I’d maybe add is “fertile adult life”. Who knows what Noel will do with his seed once Sue has gone through the menopause.

shpoot · 04/01/2019 12:31

Potato I don't get why him saying no and use the other loo and take your sister is "telling". I don't parent in sing-song either so was just wondering what it told you

BabyNameBook · 04/01/2019 12:33

I didn't realise he had a vasectomy during her 9th pregnancy which he then had reversed. I don't think they'll ever stop. I too dread to think what he will do once she can no longer have children.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 04/01/2019 12:34

Watched it last night.

They make me sick. Whoever that older girl was that was “babysitting” wouldn’t be anywhere near my children after the way she was treating those small children. Roaring every time she opened her mouth and openly admits they don’t like her babysitting. I swear if she had a cattle prod she’d use it.

Of course the TV company pays for all that! What woman in her right mind plans a new kitchen and holiday to Benidorm with 20 screaming kids a few weeks before she gives birth? She had no say in the matter. Tv company pay for it and tell her when its happening. Makes better tv when it’s all chaotic and happening at the same time.

Billballbaggins · 04/01/2019 12:39

The Radfords are an awful couple. He got her pregnant when she was 13 FFS. And people come on to these threads all the time and say ‘oh I am one of 6/my friend has 12/I am one of 8’ - that’s not even close a number to 21 (I think they have 17 of the children living at home) they cannot be meeting all their children’s basic needs there’s no way.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 04/01/2019 12:44

Seems you can't have an opinion about the Radfords on MN.
The other thread questioning Sue's age with her first pregnancy was deleted this morning.

Hubanmao · 04/01/2019 12:44

Yes I thought that too about the older sister babysitting. She admitted she doesn’t want to do it, but of course who else could they get to take on that number of kids?

The thing with the shouting seemed to me to be an inevitable learnt behaviour of living in those circumstances. None of the them seemed to talk to each other. Communication was mostly yelling, or physical (the hitting each other, tripping each other up, wrestling to the ground) or griping at one another (Noel to Sue, about the sat nav) or the childish inappropriate giggling (mostly Sue and Noel.) There was virtually no speaking to one another in normal two way conversation.

Hubanmao · 04/01/2019 12:46

Howismoving- that’s interesting. Bit like the McCanns are they? Not allowed to state facts about them?

potatoscone · 04/01/2019 12:47

If you don't get it you don't get it I suppose.

Those small children were running ferel . She was the only one who even showed any sign of an attempt to try and parent the children. Think if I had to regularly babysit unresponsive ferel children that weren't even mime and i didn't even chose to have id be pretty pissed off and stressed too
