Started to watch but didn't make it to the end. Not sure I will catch up either.

Not sure what it was, the script maybe - found it a bit boring. Maybe I expected too much

Eddie from Early Doors is in it and one of the main reasons I liked it.

Rockbird · 26/12/2018 20:51

I hated it. I've been a T&D fan since I was 9, back when they were doing Mack and Mabel. I know they were heavily involved in this production but so much was fictionalised or missed that it grated. Wouldn't be a problem I guess if you weren't an obsessive fan like me who knew the ins and outs of it all, but I spent the whole time pointing out inconsistencies to DH!

And the actors had zero chemistry. I was very disappointed in it.

Hepzibar · 26/12/2018 21:29

I have watched the rest of it now.

I think the 2 main characters, especially Jayne, were miscast, no chemistry and a stilted script.

I'm also a T&D fan from early days and this really didn't capture the country's interest in T&D and Ice dancing at the time. It really did not reflect The lead up to the Olympic Games and Bolero and the interest in it at the time. The music was specially arranged, the costumes were designed specially. Watching this you'd think they were skating in a local competition, not being watched by 150 million.

Could've been so much better

Those pesky Russians in their folky costumes.

HeavenlyEyes · 26/12/2018 21:55

I thought it was dreadful - 2 hours of nothing happening except his puppy dog eyes and her being all northern and tough. It hardly felt to be about the skating at all tbh. More about his unrequited love for her.

And then they showed some really badly edited highlights of Bolero - when all we wanted to watch was the whole routine.

MrsChollySawcutt · 26/12/2018 21:58

Funny thing, j thought it was all about her unrequited love for him! Either way, I'd much rather it focused on their sporting partnership and the tension of the competitive skating world.

I liked it in a fluffy Christmas night viewing, but just watched the end of the documentary on BBC 2. They played it the whole way through and it really was electric. Just a beautiful, seamless work of art. I think the BBC must own the rights and just didn't let them have it. Not sure why there is so much T&D stuff on this Christmas though.

noodlenosefraggle · 26/12/2018 23:27

Re who's love was unrequited. He misses her neck A Lot! She just stands there!

noodlenosefraggle · 26/12/2018 23:27

Kisses!!

CoolCarrie · 27/12/2018 00:50

I thought it was crap, but the documentary on tonight was excellent

HexagonalBattenburg · 27/12/2018 11:38

I've got it recorded to watch but twitter when it was on was hilarious mocking the accents (I'm from Nottingham) so I'm planning on watching it for comedy value alone!

MsMiaWallace · 27/12/2018 21:36

Some of the accent was ok.
Loved the Mapperley snobbishness (From Nottingham so I get it.)
Chris is actually from a better area of Nottingham compared to Jane.

Romcomjunkie · 28/12/2018 12:10

I’m just watching it now. Weird how the Anita Dobson character singled Jane out as someone ‘special’ and worthy of training when all she’d done was wobble out onto the ice very unremarkably. Not holding out high hopes for it!

Kannet · 04/01/2019 07:55

I have only just got round to watching this. Felt it was very heavily edited. Feels like there should have been more with regards their parents. I get the feeling this was supposed to be longer but was maybe cut down to fit the Xmas day schedule.

GrandmaSharksDentures · 04/01/2019 08:58

I was very disappointed. Making out that "Mack & Mabel" was their first world championship win & skipping out Barnum (1983), and the associated major injury that year, totally.
