New thread to take us to Blackpool!

OP posts:
CaptainBrickbeard · 18/11/2018 16:14

I’m supposed to be working at home so I’ve just watched all last nights dances again; I really liked them all! I don’t want anyone to go. I wondered if Kate is in pain with her rib; she looked a little bit stilted. And I’m slightly worried for Graeme’s emotional wellbeing, he seems so invested in it (and Oti; I think whoever said he seems smitten is actually right..)

CaptainBrickbeard · 18/11/2018 16:16

Also, on the gossip requests, can I ask what the vibe was between Neil and Katya? I noticed there was a long camera shot on them dancing together!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 18/11/2018 16:24

Competition has been fierce to join the prospective Nans*, but your enthusiasm and determination, and going above and beyond the call of duty by having a perm ("cauliflower" type I hope, a blue or lavender rinse is just icing on the curly cake) means that you are definitely a contender!

*Most people just want the opportunity to give Bruno some a smack, but we can hardly blame them for that.

dontcallmelen · 18/11/2018 16:28

Shaden I also like to add, I’m a real bona fide Nana & am more than willing to give Bruno a bit of a slap & tut disapproval at Shirley for her over familiarity to all the young un’s if that helps my case.
Yes cauliflower perm rollers are in as we speak.

HumbleCrumble · 18/11/2018 16:29

Stacey is quite tactile in general, she's the same with Claudia.

I've just caught up, my favourites this week were Stacey, Charles and Faye.

I want Lauren to go now, I like her but aside from floaty ballroom she's not great. I think as an athlete she finds not excelling quite hard to deal with, so I just end up feeling sad for her most weeks.

I've also just watched the Children in Need special with Boyzone - did Luba wear the same dress for the Bocellis number with Anton last week? I thought re-wearing a dress was a big Strictly no-no.

ppeatfruit · 18/11/2018 16:31

Wow lucky rarebit Star Maybe (hopefully) Stacey needed the loo!!! it must be difficult to be friendly to everyone, anyone, when you're desperate!

I did like the opening number (with the old fashioned choreography, chorus girl costumes and the boys in formal gear) I noticed that they all seem to have more time for their dances (maybe because there are fewer of them).

SchadenfreudePersonified · 18/11/2018 16:33

Can I say rarebit, how heartened I am to learn that I was totally wrong about Charles being a twat, and that he is, in fact, one of the good guys.

I didn't like him at first - he seemed to think far too much of himself - but I got very annoyed by the obvious under-marking of his routines, and started to defend him just in the interests of British Justice. He's been getting my vote for a couple of weeks. I'm pleased that haven't supported someone personally unworthy - nice to know the HE'S nice to know Grin

I'm a nan but I don't mind Bruno ( he's funny and he talks with his hands like most Italians) obviously a bit tricky if you're sitting next to him. But he tells it as he sees it, rather than world weary pretentious Craig. Who deliberately gives the bad news first to rouse a boo!!

dontcallmelen · 18/11/2018 17:21

ppeat I actually thought Bruno toned it down last night & his criticism was quite thoughtful & helpful, I reckon he has been perusing these threads.

ilovewelshrarebit123 · 18/11/2018 17:27

@Shirleyphallus our coats went under the chairs. There are cloakrooms at Elstree I think.

One 500ml bottle of sealed water was allowed, no food. So from 2 ish until 10.30 just water! They gave out a small carton of juice and a Freddo but we didn't get any.

You weren't allowed to move around, toilet trips were discouraged but allowed. They tell you to have a wee before but that long without anything was hard.

Mobiles taken off you at security and bags searched. Huge queue for mobiles at the end so we didn't take ours.

The live part where the couples dance flowed well. The rest is prerecorded and swaps about and is somewhat contrived.

Lots of encouragement to cheer/clap etc which was fun. They had a comedian/compare who was fantastic and very very funny. He spent the whole time explaining exactly what was going to happen throughout.

Yes we saw Tess and Claudia, Tess was ok but Claudia was hilarious and was moaning about her knickers!

I probably shouldn't say this but Gary Barlow had to stop the recording when they were singing as there was no auto cue and he didn't know the words 😲 this was quite amusing!

I thought Bruno was a lot better yesterday, too. I can enjoy him when he isn't windmilling his arms and falling off his chair.

At least he doesn't have favourites (well he does . . . but they don't get better marks just because he lusts after them).

AlexanderHamilton · 18/11/2018 17:34

Just. Watching on catch up as we were out last night. Loved the Gloria Estefan dance.

Darcey was at dds school this week. Dd didn’t get to take class with her this year but she did say who she liked.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 18/11/2018 17:36

Au contraire! This is exactly the sort of thing you should be saying!

ppet - I don't dislike Bruno as such, but he seems to be getting wilder and wilder and louder and louder, and he wears me out.

Yesterday he seemed much more thoughtful - just like the early days - and I much preferred it. You are right that Italians rely on gesture much more than we staid Brits do, but he is the only person I've seen who actually semaphores his criticism and advice.

iklboo · 18/11/2018 18:05

I must be part Italian somewhere. I can't speak unless I'm moving my hands about. Grin

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 18/11/2018 18:27

I’m well Envy rarebit

Thanks for the gossip Wink

CassandraCross · 18/11/2018 18:51

he talks with his hands like most Italians as do the Spanish, I love it when in either of those countries because even if you don't speak or understand the language you can usually get the gist of what's being said by the gestures! Although it is funny watching them doing the gestures with one arm whilst on the 'phone to someone.

I had another look at the back of Kate's dress and it definitely looks as if it is some kind of extra flesh coloured padding or support - could that have been there for the lift when she was horizontal?

awaynboilyurheid · 18/11/2018 19:01

Glad to hear Charles is lovely , voted for him and Karen before I read this just because I loved their samba. So glad I did now! (Also had a feeling Stacy would be a bit of a diva , feel her whole look at me I’m so down with the kids is just an act) Felt the voting was all over the place wasn’t that keen on Joe,s quickstep at all and for Pashley to get four 10,s it was certainly not one to go down in SCD history at all, I’ve loved twitter “Ashley getting 40 is like watching Jaime Oliver win a cooking competition!”

SchadenfreudePersonified · 18/11/2018 19:22

Well - Dr Who was bollox tonight, so I hope the dance-off is worth waiting for.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 18/11/2018 19:23

I love hearing those languages . . . it always sounds like fresh clean water bubbling over pebbles . . .

Shirleyphallus · 18/11/2018 19:24

Loving this opening number

Thank you welshrabbit for the gossip!

TheSassyAssassin · 18/11/2018 19:26

Blimey! Dynasty just called...it wants its dresses back Tess and Claud! Shock

Evening Smile

SchadenfreudePersonified · 18/11/2018 19:26

Ah - Tess in Bacofoil again - hope she has the non-stick side inwards.

And Claud has one of Bette Lynch's charity bag rejects.

Excellent!

Like Dave and Shirley's "frocks"

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 18/11/2018 19:26

Tess is very shiny!

I wasn't too keen on that opening number Blush Far too many people involved. Did I spot Trent and Natalie?

Wolfcub · 18/11/2018 19:26

Evening all. I like Darcey’s dairy milk dress
