I can hardly watch....come on David! (the chimpanzee, not the presenter!)

@Pascha it’s upsetting but is also worth explaining to ds that this is nature, and however hard we find it to watch, this is how nature happens.

Have also just read what happened to David after they stopped filming Sad . But worth remembering that he was the longest serving leader of the group to date and had served twice as long as others....

OK thanks. One to watch together on Saturday afternoon downstairs in the daylight with the rather than on his own on the tablet I think.

bizzers · 12/11/2018 08:31

@SummerGems I googled this morning to see if there was any more info about him after the series was filmed and read it too Sad

VanillaSugary · 12/11/2018 08:41

Why did they cal him Luther? Bloody Judas, more like.

I was watching the One Show recently and they had one of the cameramen on the sofa asking about the series. He worked on the second episode about penguins and said that before he left for filming his wife told him she was pregnant. He was filming for 11 months so by the time he got home his child was 7 months old! That is true dedication to the job.

This series (and in fact most of the BBC Natural History programmes) looks like it will be fantastic. The BBC has such a wealth of knowledge in its vaults that it is hard to argue when you're paying your TV license that it is bad value for money. I'd pay it twice over if I knew I was going to be getting programmes the calibre of this every week! Even following "The Blue Planet 2", when they aired the episode where the sea was covered in discarded plastics and it was the size of Mexico or twice the size, they must have known that it was going to have an impact on how things are done. I believe that based on that single episode alone, governments decided to bring in legislation quicker to deal with single-use plastics.

The one with the penguins was on last night and it was some heavy going...I really loved the bit at the end where they show the cameramen and what they go through to get the shot.
I was so pleased when they decided to dig out a pathway that the stranded penguins could have escaped using (and when they showed that they were using it, it was the icing on the cake for me)!

Fantastic series. Bring on the lions next!

bizzers · 19/11/2018 09:07

I was so glad that they intervened and dug the little ramp! It was definitely hard-going. Poor little baby that got kidnapped, it was heartbreaking watching the parents looking at her empty pouch. Sad

Looking forward to the lions!

Just read this:

BBC nature team defends decision to intervene and save mother and baby emperor penguins jrnl.ie/4349792

Bit mad!! They did quite minimal 'interference'. Not like they handled the penguins; just made an easier egress from the ravine.

If it wasn't for Yaya (Yaryar?) I'm not sure I'd have been able to keep watching this. Emotional rollercoaster!

TulipsInbloom1 · 25/11/2018 20:57

Love seeing how affectionate they are with one another

StripySocksAndDocs · 25/11/2018 21:09

Weren't they. It was so nice the head rubs. My cat does that to me, though thankfully he doesn't expect me to fight buffalo.

Cocolepew · 25/11/2018 21:34

The poisioning of them is awful Sad

Hopefully I won't get so emotional next week, I'm not a fan of painted dogs.

Thought provoking and fascinating programme last night. Loved the bit when the young males buddy turned up to help him out with the hyenas. He was so relieved to have his mate there!!! And Charm, what a legend.
