They were all a bit odd! No e were particularly stunning, even Matthius in my opinion.
As my grandma would have said 'They don't spoil two families'.

Whitney168 · 05/11/2018 16:19

I think Louis Theroux is an inspired interviewer, he has an ability to interview people without appearing judgemental that I don't think I've seen in anyone else. Bless him at the orgy though, like a PP said I wanted to rescue the poor soul, his discomfort emanating through the screen.

Weird programme last night. Poor Jerry is clearly on a complete loser. I can't imagine why Heidi holds on to him - money? looking after their daughter? He says he is completely on board with the poly lifestyle, and it will be awesome when he meets a partner - but hasn't managed it in ? 10 years. Pull the other one, Jerry ...

He is obviously miserable as sin and just can't imagine life without her. I would think it would be hugely improved for him. Ditto Gretchen really, she is clearly thrilled that someone is taking him off her hands, and you can't see why they wouldn't cut each other loose.

Joe asked his wife for permission to propose to Heidi and she told him to rock on and make an honest woman of her - how does that work, there is no legal status to polygamy in the US is there?

As for the AJ/Q bunch. There are no words ... see if they're still doing it when they've all grown up.

NameChanger22 · 05/11/2018 19:15

I got the impression AJ was quite a good actress and was using Q to make Mattius jealous enough to stop shagging his other girlfriend. I got the impression Mattius was happy to shag anyone that would give him a free place to live. And I get the impression Louis is a bit kinky underneath his 'no sex I'm British' façade. I wonder what he got up to when the cameraman decided to pack up for the night?

2rebecca · 05/11/2018 23:35

It wasn't really what I think of as polyamory. It was more bigamy without the official forms as most of the relationships seemed to have one partner who was really in to it and other more monogamous partner/s who are going along with it so they don't lose the person/ split up the family for the kids.
Only watched half of it so far but more frustrated with Gerry than sorry for him and agree with Gretchen who said "he had options". He is getting nothing out of it and should leave, but maybe thinks he'd be just as miserable on his own. Not sure why Gretchen stays (think that was her name). Joe isn't that much of a catch and she is attractive and intelligent. She should take the kids and leave the love birds to it.

"And I get the impression Louis is a bit kinky underneath his 'no sex I'm British' façade. I wonder what he got up to when the cameraman decided to pack up for the night?"

He's been to a swingers party and offered himself as a porn 'actor' in other programmes so I think you might be right.
On the other hand, I think he does judge the hell out of all the people he interviews. Very few people come off well in his documentaries. They're usually tragic.

FlamingJuno · 11/11/2018 13:11

Just watched this on catch up. Interesting that the initiators seemed to be the women. Even though Joe was the one actually doing the extra-marital shagging, it felt like Gretchen had maybe encouraged it in the first place. Heidi was a horror, and, call me old-fashioned, but I actually think it's abusive to involve your child in conversations about your sex life.
The weird techy types in the threesome made my skin crawl and the orgy ones were just hippies. Mattias and his group were stoners with nothing to say.
I do love Louis' documentary style though. His face was a picture at the orgy. The whole thing made me appreciate my sheltered, vanilla lifestyle tbh.

From the Guardian. Fairly spot on.

Louis Theroux's Sunday BBC2 9pm
Lepetitpiggy · 11/11/2018 18:15

I was really looking forward to the wanting to die one, thinking it was on tonight - darn it!

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 11/11/2018 21:11

@Lepetitpiggy

There's one from 2011 about dangerous pets on channel 17, 11pm tonight!

Lepetitpiggy · 11/11/2018 21:16

Ooh. Thank you!

Gwenhwyfar · 11/11/2018 21:36

There's loads of old ones on i-player.

Italiangreyhound · 15/11/2018 14:29

How the hell could three people actually sleep in that bed. Three people snoring?!

Noeuf "What is he drinking from? Some massive jug" read that and then saw the big jug!!

Doyoumind I think it's often for people who are addicted to that feeling you have when you fall in love and when someone is in love with you. It doesn't last in the same way in a normal relationship so you just replace it with a new love to give and receive."

I think you have 'nailed it', Do if you don't mind my saying.

Also in the couple at the start, the other man's other wife (Gretchen?) seemed to be implying she would not be happy being married to her husband but him having a new 'wife' somehow helped her.

Plus the Amanda, Bob, and Nick pairing seemed that she was not happy so Nick is staying knowing he is not enough for his wife, she needs a 'missing piece' in the form of Bob.

Italiangreyhound · 15/11/2018 14:30

Plus Amanda said she is depressed so this feels like a bit of a sticking plaster.

Italiangreyhound · 15/11/2018 14:45

Girlfrommars11 "It was more selfish people taking advantage of insecure partners."

Doesn't really fit with the idea of

"compersion (uncountable) The feeling of joy one has experiencing another's joy, such as in witnessing a toddler's joy and feeling joy in response. The feeling of joy associated with seeing a loved one love another; contrasted with jealousy."

Oh that poor kid too. Jerry I feel so sorry for him. His wife is a bitch, she was shaking her head when Jerry said about joining her and Joe.

I think Jerry needs to find a nice woman who won't treat him like this.

Italiangreyhound · 15/11/2018 14:46

Girlfrommars11 but I agree with you!
