I would hope with the Grinyou would realise I wasn't being serious...

salsamummy · 20/09/2018 21:19

If Saffi can't raise 10% of the remainder of the school fees how are they going to pay for the extras??? Also I presume it's the day school fee so will have travelling costs.

salsamummy · 20/09/2018 21:41

sadly she is not going.

noraclavicle · 20/09/2018 23:30

Sadly she didn’t - her mum has got Twitter judgement for it, but I’m more 😡 at the schools like QE who dangle a 90% carrot and - I daresay - fulfil their charitable status with it but know full well that poor families will struggle to get even the last 10% together. But the good news is Safy aced her GCSEs & is hoping to study medicine. My home area too (yes, I left for better opportunities), but damn, it gets me emotional every week!

5foot5 · 20/09/2018 23:44

noraclavicle oh I hope that does come off for Safy, I was so sorry she didn't get to take up the scholarship

Me too! It was heartbreaking - she so deserves to do well in life - as do them all

salsamummy · 21/09/2018 08:13

In some ways it's better to know beforehand and her mum was right to say no at the beginning as it will always be an effort and a whole load of worry trying to find the money. I know from experience.

EuphoricNight · 21/09/2018 08:28

I don't know why they didn't take the travelling and extra costs into consideration before getting Saffy's hopes up. You'd think they'd have been better applying for Yarm private school which is much nearer.

Enjoyed last night's episode, it wasn't as bleak as the first 2 which seemed to focus solely on James and the girls prom dress.

RandomMess · 21/09/2018 10:14

I think the biggest problem was thAt her Mum needed her for childcare so she needed to stay at a local school. It's just the harsh reality for the working poor Sad

Got to say I've been loving the soundtrack. Just read the production company have done a Spotify playlist for it which I'm about to stick on

StableGenius · 21/09/2018 13:56

Just watched the latest - I have to say that when I saw that the school offering Saffy the scholarship was QE my heart sank. They're well known on here for getting any thread about them deleted, so watch what you comment too!

Please tell me that somewhere else (Millfield? anywhere else good for netball?) will make Saffy a proper offer. Fingers triple-crossed for her.

StableGenius · 21/09/2018 14:01

Oh, just seen your update noraclavicle, that's great news.

IsabelleSE19 · 21/09/2018 14:08

Also just watched the latest - heartbroken for Safy but can totally understand her mum's position. Do these schools not take these things into account when they make these offers?

Hope Jess got her job - it wasn't really clear from the programme.

Indeed! I’ve held my tongue Wink

JaneJeffer · 21/09/2018 20:31

I'll have a look for that this

DarlingNikita · 01/10/2018 13:36

It seemed really unfair, didn't it? But I think I blame her netball coaches/club more, TBH. They seemed to get carried away with what they COULD do and forgot about or disregarded what they couldn't. Did none of them stop to check whether uniforms etc would be included? Or think about travel? Let alone consider Safy's home situation and the support she gives her mum and siblings?
