Dr Who tonight - Blink

Aitch · 09/06/2007 01:47

i've just watched the next dr who, and it is absofuckinglutely terrifying. i may not sleep tonight.

anyone living in a city with lot of victorian buildings, expect lots of kiddies peeing their pants at the sight of garden and architectural statuary. the 'are you my mummy' one... NOTHING compared to this. [petrified emoticon]

i'm not kidding, by the way. i'd recommend taping and watching it forst to check.

my mum had a big stone Buddha by her front door once (tasteful), one mornin she came out and there was a mini plastercast one in it's place

Mrscarrot · 09/06/2007 22:39

morninG

BaffledByBabyTights · 09/06/2007 22:44

rofl, MrsCarrot. . I thought it was the best episode of the series too, confess to still missing the Rose/Doctor chemistry and wondered if the actress playing Sally Sparrow would have been a better assistant. Was v peed off with dr Who confidential though - I wanted to see the filming with the statues more!

foxinsocks · 09/06/2007 22:45

mine were much more frightened of the scarecrows

Peachy · 09/06/2007 22:54

Kids didn't get this one but Dh and I loved it

They're al excited aout next wek, which wewill ahve to watch Sunday (well it is fathers Day) as we will be out that evening.

Can't get excited about cap Jack any more, gone right off John Barrowman since the Joseph thing- over opinioated plastic camera hog

Peachy · 09/06/2007 22:58

Oh and we liked this series so far - not so keen on the dalek opne but otherwise great episodes.

And I maybe do smell Armadillo, was gardening all day and then had to go to a rugby presentation for ds1 in the heat and can't be arsed for a bath (no shower) so probably

elasticbandstand · 09/06/2007 23:00

my dds went to bed scared about dr who..

katelyle · 09/06/2007 23:12

I thought it was brilliant -and proper Dr who! Not as scary as the "are you my mummy"one. That was horrible - dcs still freak me out by saying it!

TwoIfBySea · 09/06/2007 23:16

Dts are only 5 1/2 but never get scared at Doctor Who due to the fact they know he is back every week. Therefore he always wins against the "baddies"!

Did wonder why no one thought to torch the scarecrows too - did Martha never see the Wizard of Oz?

ellceeell · 09/06/2007 23:21

I wanted to see more about filming the statues too! Am slightly embarrassed to admit I didn't realise they were actors until I saw Dr Who Confidential - very weird seeing their eye pieces being put on them.

vimfuego · 10/06/2007 00:52

Proper sh*at me up it did.

WideWebWitch · 10/06/2007 07:08

I thought it was a fab and moving episode, I wanted to cry when Billy's an old man and dying.

I liked the Shakespeare episode too, lots of funny lines ("a million academics just punched the air") and the scarecrow double episode, I thought it was great writing.

fillyjonk · 10/06/2007 07:32

was very good

i think the doctor-lite ones have so far been the best, love and monsters was really good, also

the writing for these new seasons is far and away better than the crap before.

daleks annoy me though. too deus ex machina. not for too much longer though.

Shrinkinglily · 10/06/2007 08:08

I love, love, loved it. Thought it was scarey and also great fun.

Katymac · 10/06/2007 08:13

What I want to know is why the girl and the policeman going back in time - didn't invest in the things that were going to make money & become rich?

I mean even betting on big events would have made money

Shrinkinglily · 10/06/2007 08:17

I think the Martha/dr relationship would have been more juicy if she was uninterested in him romantically and if he had a slightly secret crush on her.

fillyjonk · 10/06/2007 08:30

yes agree the martha thing is just crappy

i cringe for her every week and i don't want to be doing that, really

i hope theres some sort of big denoument whereby she realises he's not worth it, i hate seeing someone strung along

dionnelorraine · 10/06/2007 08:39

That was the scariest Dr Who I have ever seen! I even had to cover my eys for some of it! I bloody loved it! Great stuff!!!!

sockmonkey · 10/06/2007 09:21

Me & DH sat holding hands through that one. It was creepy! GLad the LOs were in bed.
Still, better than making me cry like last weeks episode.
(there must be something wrong with me this week, I cried at ER, Ugly Betty, and Britian's Got talent FGS!)

Katy44 · 10/06/2007 09:35

I loved that one! Not sure what you all mean by the last sequence though - you mean the bit that ended in them all looking at each other round the tardis? Surely that was necessary to stop them?
It wasn't as scary as the "Are you my mummy" one though
Am I the only one who thinks martha is much better than that little drip rose?

Aitch · 10/06/2007 09:40

agree about the daleks, filly, you think something really interesting is happening and you might meet a new figure of terror but no, look, they've just parachuted in more of the blasted tin machines who are [yawn] Intent On Universal Domination Or Something.
actually, that's why i loved/feared the statues, they Are all around us...
hopefully it will encourage more children to look up and see the weirdnesses of victorian architecture. my father was a stickler for it, so i'm familiar with pretty much every gargoyle in glasgow.

Katy44 · 10/06/2007 09:43

Aitch, what does everyone mean by the 'last sequence'? I can't remember anything that wasn't an essential part of the story? I probably fell asleep!

Aitch · 10/06/2007 09:47

lol, i think you did. when everything was resolved and sally sparrow had told the doctor and given him the letter, the plot ended but they replayed the doc's 'don't blink' speech over footage of zillions of statues, ones like you (and your children) will see in any town centre in the country. bbbrrrrr
and i like martha too, i think she's great, really sparky. but i could live without the crush as it just seems to have come from nowhere. not that i can't understand having a thing for DT, of course, but the doc isn't terribly tender with her or anything, so it seems tacked-on to me.

OP posts:
belgo · 10/06/2007 09:51

I think I would have gotton sick of the chemistry between Rose and the Doctor if it had continued.

The living statues remined me of Terry Pratchett's gargoyles.

Katy44 · 10/06/2007 09:52

Thanks, I must have been asleep! Thinking about it I can't remember the preview of the next one either.
Yes, the crush is a bit of a pity, would be better if she could just be an intelligent, competent assistant for him without that. I didn't like him as a Dr to begin with but the last few have been fantastic, I loved his explanation of non-linear time yesterday "wibbly wobbly timey ...stuff"
