I love the ideas and dystopias of Black Mirror but I don’t like the nightmares some of the more gory episodes give me Sad

Would anyone care to recommend me their favourite clever but not grim ones? Please Smile

Do not watch the one with Maxine Peake in. Just don't. Still having nightmares.

San Junipero is a lovely episode.

fromroses · 29/08/2018 15:42

Hang The DJ and San Junipero are wonderful and not crazily dark.

EvaHarknessRose · 29/08/2018 15:56

cariadlet Grin Shock

OK so I am getting the message that there are a handful of wonderful and not too gory ones that I can seek out, and now I need to carefully scan the cast lists to avoid Maxine Peak Grin . Thanks all, happy viewing!

White Bear and Shut Up and Dance aren’t gory but, like others have said, will stay with you long after viewing but they are very good IMO. White Bear is in my top 3 and Shut up and Dance top 5

I love those 2 as well. Disturbing, but in a thought provoking rather than gory way.

I don't know if any of you fellow Black Mirror fans also listen to podcasts, but there's an interesting one called Black Mirror Cracked. Each episode discusses a particular episode of Black Mirror and there are sometimes discussions with cast members. I always want to rewatch whichever episode is being discussed because they point out so much that I've missed like little links to other stories.

Ooh I’ll check that out, thanks.

Is that the black and white one? I don’t recall that being scary? It’s one I only watched once though as I didn’t find it that good.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 29/08/2018 19:44

Nosedive with Bryce Dallas Howard is a great episode.

eggofmantumbi · 29/08/2018 20:30

White Bear is the best one. They were much better in C4 in my opinion

ArmySal · 29/08/2018 21:08

White bear is brilliant. I had to get my 14 year old to watch it to see what her opinion was about it, it stayed with me for a while.

eggofmantumbi · 29/08/2018 21:50

Yes @armysal I did the same with my husband. Great show

Mumshotel · 29/08/2018 21:54

What every One else said

MissionItsPossible · 29/08/2018 23:10

In order to watch the ones you haven’t seen imo (Non-gory):

San jupinero
Nosedive
White Bear
15 million merits
Shut up and Dance
SSS Callister
Hang the DJ

Zoomzoomzoomzoom0 · 29/08/2018 23:18

Playtest I think was the one with the American backpacker. That one really upset me on so many levels, it's scary and disturbing and horribly tragic. Agree with the general concensus, Nosedive is brilliant. Bryce Dallas Howard trying to keep it together, she's just wonderful to watch. Arkangel also quite upsetting I thought (but I have a little girl so maybe I was projecting Sad) San junipero is quite uplifting.

namechange5575 · 29/08/2018 23:23

Don't watch white bear - desperately sad references and implied violence, without being gory :(

eggofmantumbi · 30/08/2018 08:35

Oh god I HATED SS callister. And didn't really rate nosedive either.

Actually the one with Domnhal Gleeson is good too, if we're talking recent ones

HopelesslydevotedtoGu · 30/08/2018 16:52

Oh yes The Entire History of You is great, not at all scary and great premise

Hang the DJ was fine, nice story and not at all scary but I didn't find it that good a plot

White bear was the most troubling for me. It was absolutely horrible psychologically and still troubles me years after I watched it!

bringbacksideburns · 30/08/2018 19:41

My son told me Black Museum is the goriest so I'm avoiding that.

Watched White Bear and SS Callista today.

Brilliant.

Oh I'm wracking my brains here ...

What episode was this ?
There was a man and a woman, I can't remember if there's a child , but she was in a semi comatose state , at the end she's in a chair and thinking but cannot speak?
I don't know if he can read her mind or something .

I'm sure it was a BM episode ....

AdelaideK · 30/08/2018 20:31

Oh don't watch White Bear.

I usually don't have trouble with tv but this would not get out of my head for days.

The one with Bryce Dallas Howard is easy watching.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/08/2018 20:40

I really liked White Bear (watched it twice Grin )
And "Shut Up and Dance"
"Crocodile" ( but gorey)

We watched loads on NYE in DS room , he recommended the 'million credits ' one (not my favourite one)

If you like Black Mirror, you might like Inside No.9. It’s still twisty and dark but also funny and not gory.

TricycleBicycle · 30/08/2018 21:05

70 are you thinking of the story within the episode Black Museum, where a woman's consciousness was first transferred into her partner's brain, and then ended up in a teddy bear?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/08/2018 21:57

Ah yes , thanks Tricycle (that's why I couldn't find it , I looked through all the episodes but not the Black Museum one)

The monkey toy .

cariadlet · 30/08/2018 22:07

@Lofo Black Mirror is on Netflix. The 1st couple of series were originally on Channel 4, but Netflix now has all of them.
