Any fans here of the old Ade Edmondson and Rik Mayall classic?

Gold, Frankenstein & Grrrr!

JoyceDivision · 12/07/2018 19:42

That's not Ted Rogers! That's that bird from the abbatoir who's marrying Cannonball Taffy O'Jones!

binkyblinky · 12/07/2018 19:46

Weston. Super. Mare---are!

bychoiceornot · 12/07/2018 19:46

Not Cannonball Taffy O'Jones!!

Nothing cheers me up when I'm down than watching Rik and Ade's Bottom. Especially the live shows, their audience interaction is magic.

It's comfort tv to me. Never tire of watching it

Bananalanacake · 12/07/2018 20:12

Yes. My favourite was culture.

Warsaw0912 · 12/07/2018 20:14

Sprouts mexicane!! My Grandad used to make these at xmas and all is kids would have to try them Grin

bychoiceornot · 12/07/2018 20:23

Culture is probably my favourite one too.

"What about Pin The Tail On The Donkey?"

"We haven't got a donkey."

""Oh, well, Pin The Tail On The Chicken."

"We haven't got a tail."

"Well, Pin The Sausage On The Chicken."

"We haven't got a chicken..."

"Pin The Sausage On The Fridge!"

"Or a pin."

"Sellotape A Sausage To The Fridge."

"We haven't got a sausage!"

"Put A Bit Of Sellotape On The Fridge!!"

BlancheM There is something so comforting about it, which is odd considering the crudeness (not a negative thing, in my eyes!)

Maybe it's happy memories of watching it when I was younger, or maybe it's the relative safety of things like renting TVs and Rumbelows.

Favourite episode is the Chess one and the camping on Wimbledon Common. 'Wombles!'. Grin

Unevenbeard · 12/07/2018 20:35

Favourite one is the camping one and the gas man. How do you keep warm? We make love. We put the kettle... On the floor. That's right because we don't use gas. They're re running a Rik Mayall documentary on I player at the moment, well worth a watch

Unevenbeard · 12/07/2018 20:35

Anyone fancy some sprouts mexicane?

DiabolicalMess · 12/07/2018 20:51

'SHHIIIiiiiIIIIT Eddie!' I loved Bottom. It's sometimes still on Gold.

My favourite was when they got stuck at the top of the Ferris wheel.

And also the electric cattle prod Halloween episode. Those red tights!!

DuchessAnnogovia · 12/07/2018 21:04

I love the live shows too!!
Richie: Eddie, I've decided to kill myself because I'm £15,000 in debt
Eddie: fucking hell a line from the play! I never saw that one coming, we're only an hour in and he's spoken an actual line - wow!

OhMrDarcy · 12/07/2018 21:14

DH and I quote bits of Hotel Paradiso to each other all the time. Mainly when DD isn't listening. Comedy gold.

NT53NJT · 12/07/2018 21:16

I love the old bottom episodes. I grew up with them always on cause my dad was an avid fan.

Eddie Hitler was my personal favourite. Always made me laugh

redfragglebiker · 12/07/2018 21:16

Go stand on your special mark.

QueenOfMyWorld · 12/07/2018 21:23

Pint of Absinthe please

bychoiceornot · 12/07/2018 22:22

I love when Richie just starts singing or elongating Eddie's name. Rik was a legend. "Eh-duh-duh-eeeeeeeeee!"

One of my favourite bits is in (I think) the first live show, where Rik loses it and just about manages his line "I've got some sad and tragic news" through fits of giggles.

GAS MAN GAS MAN GAS MAN!

DH and I rewatch it regularly. I still can’t belive Rik isn’t here any more.

SporkInTheToaster · 13/07/2018 11:16

Culture is the best one.

bringincrazyback · 13/07/2018 12:32

'That's a smashing blouse. Do you often wear blouses?'

KlutzyDraconequus · 13/07/2018 12:35

The Japanese Door.... Nuff Sed..

"Eddie Eddie Eddie, you were born in Southampton? Why did you ever leave?"
"Because... I found the railway station.."

Love it..
The world still seems more grey since Rik left it tho.

Hersetta427 · 13/07/2018 15:37

My husband now has a collection of four bottom tshirts.

Pictures of Richie and Eddie with

'it's the gas man ! '

'May I say what a smashing blouse you have on'

A Xmas one with gold, Frankenstein and grrr

And finally 'have me, I'm a love albatross '

Even being able to recite the script verbatim doesn't stop us laughing out loud at every episode. Favourites are holy and terror (the hallowe'en episode.

bychoiceornot · 14/07/2018 08:53

I've wanted a tank top or something that says "Smashing Blouse" or similar, it's one of my favourite 'catchphrases', although not sure you can call it that. Just always makes me smile.

I remember when I was about 13 or so, my friend's older brother had the Hooligan's Island video, and we used to nick it to watch on sleep overs, and the Japanese Door moment was just the funniest thing this group of teenage girls had ever seen!
