Another fan of the Spinners and Losers and Rise of the Nutters. There is something about the timing of it, that usually dead time between Xmas and New Year where you do half days in the office and dick about sending one email a day as nobody else is in. Not in TTOI world where all hell breaks lose and it feels like every minute the history is going to change direction, not necessarily for the better given the utterly random nature of it as the various candidates for PM come and go like political roadkill.
It also contains a slightly quaint piece of nostalgia about papers breaking stories - remember that time?

But the true reason for these special being my secret faves is that we meet Peter Mannion. And I love Peter Mannion. Word on the street is that they based him on Ken Clarke and I can well believe it. When two years Clarke had that chat with Rifkind while being miked up and said that Theresa May was a "bloody difficult woman" and that if Gove became PM "I think with Michael as Prime Minister we’d go to war with at least three countries at once"
That was pure Mannion.
