History of Britain with Andrew Marr

Did anybody else watch this? I thought it was fantastic and Andrew Marr made it really entertaining.
I thought the part about the marauding, violent gangs and feral kids in London in the late 1940s was very apt. People forget that these problems have always existed and is not a modern phenomenon.

DH and I watched it and really enjoyed it too.

Did you feel a surge a pride when the programme discussed the formation of the NHS? I certainly did, paricularly as my DM was one of the many Jamaican immigrants who later worked in it for over 30 years. It is so undervalued these days, imo.

The other part I found interesting was the background to why the USA finally decided to bail out Britain. It was not for altruistic sentiments in helping a fellow ally who fought besides them in WW2. No, it was because they were afraid that communism would spread to the West because many countries in Western Europe were broke following WW2 and Russia was exploiting that.

Yes I watched it.
It was really interesting and I loved the old footage.
I found the section about the squatters on Kensington High Street fascinating as I had never heard about that before.

Is it just me or is Andrew Marr very, very attractive in a skinny, cerebral kind of way?

speedymama · 23/05/2007 14:16

Oh yes.
